Check out the Stoeger 2000. It should be right at the $400 mark but it is easily the best shotgun that I have ever owned.

I agree with wingbone here!I'm an 870 fan myself considering it to be one of the toughest guns made for all conditions and just keeps on shootin!You can get an express magnum for under your price rangequite easy...Bob

The 1300 that I am looking at already has some sort of choke in it. It is one that sticks out of the endof the barrel about a 3/4 of an inch, is their some way i can figure out what kind of choke it is? Also, thank you for all the posts. Can somebody also recomend a great turkey choke for that gun?

Unless you are familure with the look of most chokes, the only way you can tell what kind it is, is to screw it out. Then, some don't have the names on them.

You ask for the best choke for that gun???

Every choke/load/gun combo is going to shoot different. I could put a choke in mine and shoot a baseball size hole in a plate at 40yds, then you could put the same choke on load on your gun and it could pattern terriblly.

I went through about five chokes and sixloads with my BPS before I found a combo that I was happy with.

Also like I stated earlier, just about anything is good enough to kill a turkey at 25yds, WE (HUNTERS), just want the "best" at the "magic 40yds".

From what I have gathered and used myself, here is a list of the more popular chokes:

Comp-N-Choke
Kicks
Star Dot
Jelly Head
Madd

If I were in your shoes and know what I know now, I would start off with the Star Dot. That choke is only $20 and my $70 Comp-N-Choke is the only one that I have found that out done it on my set up.

I would highly recommend the Mossberg 835. Great gun and really well priced.

Last year i Used a Wards Western bolt 20ga. (the guns about 50yrs. old) This year i'm using a Bakal 12ga side by side. my dad bought it from Gander Mtn. for $350. it came w/full, modified, and imp. cylinder. it has a single selective trigger, and a 3 in. chamber.

My turkey gun is a Mossberg 500. I bought it from my uncle, used for about $ 100, then got rid of the wood and put on a Hogue stock set. Man did that make a world of difference. I also put on an Uncle Mikes sling and a Carlson's turkey choke. All together I have about $180 in this gun. I keep thinking I'll get a better (more expensive) gun someday, but to tell you the truth I really like the way this shoots and handles, so why spend more? I took my first turkey with this gun last spring and noticed it had a little trouble ejecting 3" loads. No trouble with 2 3/4, so I sent the gun to Mossberg to look at it. I am very impressed with their service. They fixed it free of charge, mind you this was a used gun bought second hand.
