10ga. for Toms?
I have always wanted a 10ga. for turkey hunting, but never bought one. I have a little extra money and am thinking about buying one soon.
I don't really care to use it for anything, but turkey hunting so I thought about buying one of the NE single shot 10ga's. My question is, does anyone have any experience with these guns? Also, would buying a 10ga be a waste of money? I have several guns. The one I use to turkey hunt with now is a Browning BPS 3.5''. Its not that what I have doesn't work. I've just always wanted a 10ga. What do ya'll think? |
RE: 10ga. for Toms?
I wouldn't spend the money. You aren't gonna get much more, if any, killing power out of a 10 gauge vs. a 12 gauge 3.5 inch shell. Plus you already have a great gun. 12 gauge is plenty big enough for all kinds of hunting. That single shot 10 would kick the crap out of you too.;)JMO.

It has been my experience that 10 ga. single shots are punishing on the shooter. I have shot several and didn't care for that aspect of them. I have several turkey gun and one of mine is a 10 ga Browning BPS w/24" barrel. It is a serious turkey killer, but it is heavy. Too heavy to carry for the way I like to hunt (always on the move).
My theory on purchasing guns is if you want it and you can afford it buy it. They are good investments. |

I would stick with the 12ga. Those 10 ga's kick like crazy.

RE: 10ga. for Toms?
I've shot a 10 for about 20 years now thumpin turkeys and will continue to do so!My old Ithica semi is so familiar to me its like my right arm!As far as the kick,it kicks far less than many of the 3'magsI've shot,it more or less push's than gives you that bone jarring kick!My wifehas even shot it on occasion!Yes theres far more user friendly firearms available to todays modern turkey hunters in this case the gun is just so darn heavy but thats why I have a Butler Creek sling on it too!As far as what it does to turkeys and the confidence I have inshooting it I am not about totry and fix something that aint broke!!!!:D:D;)

I ordered it, hopefully it will be in this week. Like you said, "you can't ever have too many guns".
