I have been seeing a lot of turkeys in this one spot that i bow hunt and i was wondering. Does anyone ever find turkeys in the fall and go back in the spring and the turkeys are still there?

I believe whether or not the turkeys are there in the spring depends on a lot of factors, terrain, weather, food sources, etc. I have seen turkeys in an area in the fall and they weren't there in the spring, but mostly the reverse is true. When scouting for a spring hunt I would definitely recommend starting where you last saw them.

Longbeard,to answer your question in my experience is about 50/50.Early season I've found the birds still somewhat in there fall and winter pattern and in alot of cases in the same area, but as the breeding season moves into overdrive the birds disperse into other areas.I've scouted birds many times right before spring season started only to have them relocate to a different area because of the spring break-up.I would definately go back before spring season opens and check it out!Sometimes if they do relocate it may not be far from there wintering area and close enough to where you may find or hear them in the spring!We talk about scouting all the time here on the forum and i can tell you first hand that I can recall more than one spring gobbler that I have taken that I actually found while hog,deer or coyote hunting in the fall!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>Bob

Mr.L,Here in Pa.I'd say yes.I do all my turkey huntin in the same areas I archery hunt.Saturday while bow huntin I had a flock walk under my stand.I've taken 4 or 5 spring birds off of that same ridge.Like Bob said even if they aren't in that exact same spot come spring they will be close enough that you'll hear them gobble from that spot.One thing we have to our advantage here in Pa. is we have such a large turkey population

..Dont know about everytime,but i watched a flock stay
right in the same area all season fall until spring,but
one big gobbler is missing now..:)..

I have a few questions as scouting for me begins tomorrow: I have heard mixed theories on how to scout fall turkeys. First, will an owl hoot work for putting the birds in roost at night?

Second, how should one navigate the woods when scouting in day or night (in the day should you wear all cammo and sit and listen and at night is it ok to carry a flashlight). And is it ok to simply scout by taking a casual walk through the woods with a buddy (talking,etc)?

And last, during open season, what are the best calls to start out with and at what times (i.e owl hoot before sun-up, crow call during the day, etc, etc)?

I am new to the sport as you can probably tell and any help would be great.
