Fall turkey hunting.

I have 3 long beards running in a field that I think might be easy picking when season opens, my question is would you kill a big long beard in the fall by ambushing him or would you save him for spring? He is a good one and would be as big or close to it as any I have ever killed. Our fall season opens the 14th of Oct. and he is looking better every day.

I am hopeing for the same with three birds working a field edge. My plan is to ambush them next weekend when season opens. SO I say go for it. I Would take the big one in the fall and be proud as ever.
Good luck to you.

The worst day in the Turkey woods Is by far, more fun, than the best day of any thing else I have ever done.

Strut, there sure as heck aint nothing wrong with harvesting a big ole longbeard in the fall, thats what were out there for.I understand what you mean the fact he wont be gobbling come spring if you take him now and thats obviously up to the individual himself!Heres what I do to avoid this situation your talking about.I hunt areas I dont hunt in the spring! And much of it this time of year is on public ground, because the hunting pressure in most cases I have found is cut at least in half, and gives you a real opportunity to harvest a bird!Alot of hunters dont fall hunt turkeys and theres alot of other seasons open deer, quail, waterfowl, that hunters are concentrating there efforts on,leaving you with open woods to hunt!Just a thought that has worked for me over the years! :)Bob

id take him...chanses of seeing him in the srping might not be good at all....being a big ole gobbler he will probally get all the hens and not care about you calling...now you know where he is going everyday and can ambush him and hopefully get a shot...id go for it...
good luck
