Default What catch's your attention???

Just to get some conversation going I was wondering what sells you individually on trying/possibly purchasing a new turkey call? With so many calls available to todays turkey hunter how do you go about your choosing?Sound, maybe name, maybe type, thought this topic might help those new to the sport.....

i can honestly say that i really dont pay much attention to the name that is on the call... i look for how well the call is made... ease of use... and if i can i try to hear that call before purchase.... b/p has all types of calls that can be tried(hand held) i just keep in mind that 100's of other consumers have tried these calls before me so it is all done with a grain of salt

I usually won't buy a call unless I can try it first. The obvious exception is mouth calls. You've just gotta use trial-and-error.

I've used so many strikers and slate calls, that I have a pretty good idea what it's going to sound like, without ever using it. I know, you probably think I'm nutty.

When something new comes along, I give it a whirl - ex. Sla-tek, Aluminum, Acrylics, etc. If it comes in flashy "gimmicky" looking packaging, I usually leave that for somebody else to try. I trust certain brands (Quaker Boy, M.A.D., H.S. Strut) but I'm not necessarily brand-loyal.

I find myself unable to resist buying every aluminum call ever made.

The way a call sounds is what trips my trigger as well.

With out a doubt, sound.

Just last month I went to a hunting expo and was not intending to buy anything. I picked up a box call and liked the sound, so I bought it. It's louder than my other box call.

The sound / tone is what I look for. Good all around tone is important. I especially like the exotic wood pot calls. The ones that are purty and sound great to.
