Last day finally got my first bow Tom.
Well after 2 weeks of birds not cooperating, gobbling very much, and just plain henned up.
I connected with a nice one on Minnesota's final day of archery season. 11:00 a.m. I had a hen descoy set up in the field about 15 yards away. I had no blind with me and I heard a couple of gobblers talking back and forth and I knew they were hot. I sprinted towards the gobbles along this oak ridge and it opened up into a field at the end. When I reached the field the gobblers sounded off again. I counted 2 for sure. After glancing the field I set my decoy out and found good cover along the edge where I could see well. I then hit the slate and within 30 seconds the gobblers found my decoy. One was in strut and the other just walking along. As they closed the distance to my decoy I came to full draw behind the tree. Waited, and waited and waited a bit more. Finally in view I let the Bowtech go to work. Thunk. It was a GREAT DAY! The bird is 22 pounds sporting a 10+ inch beard and 1 and 1\4 inch spurs. My first Tom with a bow. He is at the taxidermist for a full body mount. It was a amazing hunt how it all came together the last day. Makes me wonder. Bad pic but its all I have. ![]() |
RE: Last day finally got my first bow Tom.
Sounds like an awesome bird. Taking one with a bow and no blind is a pretty tough challenge, congrats on the accomplishment!
