Black Hill S.D. would be a great place to start your search. Also S.D. & Neb. have a nulmber of reservations where you can hunt Merriams. I took one in the hills and one on a reservation in Neb. this spring.

Horse Thief Cave Ranch in Nebraska. I was there this spring birds everywhere. Lodging and supper included. The food was excellent along with the hunting. I think it runs around 650 for 3 days.

Tejon Ranch in California has guided hunts available.

They have a 95% success rate on pure strain Merriams.

They will allow "semi-guided" hunts for the same rate but if you don't score....you're "SOL".

Trophy animals in Beautiful California high country.

$1200.00 and limited bookings. They "sell out" every year!!

Hey TeeJay:

The poster asked for places to hunt Merriams.

I provided info to a place where EVERYTHING is included except getting there. AND.. if after three days you still don't score, they'll have you back at no extra charge! Not many outfitters do that.

Guided hunts for pure stain Merriams run between 600 and 800 bucks for most ranches. I've investigated throughout the entire country.

UNGUIDED non-guaranteed chance hunts are 300 bucks and up.

That said...
If I pay even $500 for a SD Merriams hunt, I also must pay airline fare, transportation and lodging. It'll come out to over a grand easily.

$1200 isn't cheap but for those that want to get their Grand Slam and live within driving distance of L.A. , this is a great opportunity.

If I don't get to Florida this year for my Osceola, I'll drop the cash and get treated like royalty. (The Osceola will cost me about 2 grand and isn't guaranteed)

Go here if you want to see this awesome country and learn. The people are wonderful and actually appreciate hunters.

California is a Beautiful State. I'm here trying to wrestle it away from the Socialist/Democrat madness.

I love my Gov!!

Bill

One more thing.
Lots of places that "Claim" to have Merriams, actually have birds that are cross strains.

:D

I paid $85 for a NR SD tag stayed with my bro in law and his brother in a camper we pulled 680 mls 1 way my trip cost exactly $342 to the dollar. Oh and i hunted for 7 days! The Black Hills strain. That included traveling there and home.
