RE: 12 gauge rem. 870
I would Recomend Getting A Remingoton Superfull Choke. A Good Load In Winchester Supremes HV #4 Shot, 60 Yards With A Good pattern

RE: 12 gauge rem. 870
Get a good extended extra-full turkey choke tube and it will be an outstanding turkey gun.

RE: 12 gauge rem. 870
My son killed a turkey with an 870 with a modified choke tube, shooting a 3" load of 5 shot. Killed him dead, and I mean Dead......but, I still like a full.

RE: 12 gauge rem. 870
I'm with these guys. I have a Carlson ported turkey choke. I'd also recommend turkey loads. Don't necessarily need to be the high end, expensive stuff (e.g. Hevi Shot, Nitro, Xtended, etc.) but they obviously work well. I killed one bird this year with Rem Magnum 2 3/4" #4s at 49 yards, and two others with Rem 3" Duplex (4X6). Here's the 2 3/4" Magnum pattern at ~40 yards with this set-up.

RE: 12 gauge rem. 870
Everyone here is assuming you have the rem-choke system. Do you have a screw in choke tube or is it a fixed barrel? If it is fixed, I recommend you get one that accepts choke tubes, preferably one that is parkerized. You can sometimes find a good deal on E-Bay, but I notice most of the decent deals are on 28" barrels. Also, be careful about interchangeability. I think the express and wingmaster are interchangeable, but the special purpose field barrels are not with the other models. Check with remington to be sure, they have a decent web site. If you have a screw in choke, then I'd agree with everyone, get an extra full choke. There many out there that will fit remingtons, and each gun shoots a little different. What works for me might not work that way for you, etc.

RE: 12 gauge rem. 870
First off the gun is a great gun for turkey. I don't know for sure if you mean you have a modified choke tube or a barrel that is fixed to modified. Either way I would NOT recommend shooting turkeys with that. At least a full choke, or even better a special turkey choke. You can kill one with a modified but the pattern gets to be to big to make good clean kills at certain distances. If you barrel accepts chokes, email me. I have a good turkey choke that would fit in that gun. Paid $50 bucks for it this fall and I have two identical ones (long story), but maybe would could work something out for the choke.

RE: 12 gauge rem. 870
If there is no choke in it then you probably cant screw tubes in. I would suggest either looking into getting another barrel that you can put chokes it (you would want one with a ventilated rib) or you can probably save some money by taking your barrel to a gunsmith somewhere and have it drilled and tapped for chokes. It is most likely too late to hunt this spring but I dont know the season date for where you live, so you have a while to get the money and get it done. You shouldn't pay much more than $100 or so for the barrel. I might be able to help you find a barrel if you need. Feel free to email me or PM me if you have any questions or want some more help.
