Long Shot Story
Alright guys I finaly got one. I have called in a lot of beards for people in the past, but I finally got one. It was not huge. It was 18#'s, 9.25" beard, and 7/8" spurs, but I got him nonethenless. It was almost 2:00 in the afternoon and I got one to answer me while stalking through one of my spots. I stood next to a tree and got him to come in, but he hung up on me, so I peeked around the tree and zapped him with teh range finder. It was 57 yards, so I set the pin on my bow and drew back, stepped out from the behind the tree, and touched off the arrow. It went right through the heart and lungs and skipped across the ground about 10 yards past it. The Turkey dropped after about 15 yards.
Add one for team 5 57 yard bow kill. Go Bowtech!!!!!! |

great job that's an amazing bow shot on a turkey. that's even a pretty good distance for a shot gun.

you got more balls than i got, i wouldnt take that shot with a shotgun, let alone a BOW........congrats on a good shgot and a good bird.....;)

I think any time you bag one with a bow you've done something to brag about. I couldn't hit the ground with a bow and arrow. Good deal man.

I've been debating whether or not to comment on this thread for awhile now.
First, I'm really happy that you got your turkey, techy. But I have to say I'm disappointed to hear about a shot taken at 57 yards. Honestly, I don't mean to pick a fight and I don't mean to preach, either. You were successful and that's great. But I just don't agree with taking shots at that distance with a bow. And not just with turkeys. I know there are people out there who can consistently put their group inside of a grapefruit at 60 yards. But, IMO, even those people shouldn't take those shots on live game. Nobody should, IMO. Too many things can go wrong, and at that distance even the slightest thing will end up having a big effect. A guy on another forum put it best: "There's a 1000 things that can happen when you shoot at live game at that distance and only one of them is good." At 60 yards, whatever animal you're shooting only has to move less than half a step for you to miss the vitals. Then you've got a wounded animal running around, which is the worst possible thing that can happen, IMO. The animal suffers and inevitably someone finds it with an arrow stuck in it and bowhunters get another collective black eye. Again, sorry to sound preachy or condescending. I really don't mean to rain on anyone's parade at all. I just wanted to put in my two cents to hopefully make people think twice about taking long shots. Enjoy your turkey; they're hard to get no matter what method you use. |

with a bow, mainly becasue of my own abilities, and the thrill of getting them in close, I dont shoot further than 25 yards, even with a shotgun, and I DONT MISS with a shot gun, I wont pull the trigger at further than 35 yards. I consistantly hit 24 out of 25 trap shooting, so I consider myself a pretty good shot with a 12gauge. But again, half the fun is getting them in as close as you can. None-the-less, GREAT SHOT!!
