2015 got off to a "crappy" start. Deer took a poop in front of my trail camera!
 

I left my camera up from deer season, and one of the first videos off my camera for the new year has a little spike buck walk in, he checks out the mock scrape I made during deer season, leaves his scent on my licking branch that I tied to this tree.... then takes a poop right in front of my camera.

Talk about a crappy start to the year!! :lolabove:

Interesting take on deer droppings
 

I remember scouting in the pre-trail cam period. Deer were many times not seen. Only that they had been there. You found droppings. Deer dropings were important then. Estimated how old they were; guaged the size of the deer to the size of the droppings. And moved on.

Now with trail cams, it seems unimportant to have deer droppings. The size and period doesn't matter. The size of the deer's rack and time visited is recorded.
You only have to come and sit where the camera took its pictures. And the deer is suppose to automatically come.

In the old days, you learned from the deer droppings that the deer wasn't necessarily going to come back soon. And you didn't depend on one site. You didn't depend on one set of antlers you didn't see.
I wonder what is better. The knowing or the unknowing.

I like knowing what's out there - and while I've never shot a buck I had a GOOD look at on my camera (one shot one that even passed by a camera) - I do like knowing what's out there for little guys so I know what to expect to pass up.

Especially when we've got a buck that got a broken rack early on that'll be a monster next year...:deer:
