Batteries can cause problems. If any one battery drops to 1.0 to 1.2 volt, tested with a digital meter, the camera will not function properly, or not at all. Even new batteries, fresh out of the package may contain a faulty one. Removing and reinstalling the batteries may help as a new or clean connection is formed. Another cause is an SD card which was not reformatted after use either in that camera or another camera. The card may be too large a GB for the camera to recognize. Some of the newer cameras are listed as accepting up to 32 GB size, when they will not. Maybe the switch you mention just needed resetting from not making proper contact. Glad to hear you have it working.
