Prolly got shot there but just enough to take some of the skin/fur off.
Looks like he'll be just fine though.

Got any big cats in your neck of the woods?

I've seen vids of cougars biting deer in that general area when trying to suffocate them.

Might be a paraiste that got in to that area. That will cause deformities also.
