furyless: For SD cards I am using Lexar 2GB & 4GB, SanDisk 2GB, 4GB & 8GB, Verbatim 2GB and Adapta 2GB. Some 4GB and anything above will be SDHC (secure digital high capacity). Some SD cards have a number on the front in an open circle. This is the writing or record speed. Some of these numbers match the size of SD card while others do not. As an example I have the following on my SanDisk cards: 2GB-2, 4GB-4 and 8GB-4. The number shown after "-" is the speed. An 8GB card is plenty big enough for any trail camera, even if set for video. Some manufactures list the new cameras capable of using 32GB cards. Several of these cameras will not work with the larger cards. Your manual should list what size card it is capable of using. Several manufactures recommend SanDisk brand of cards.
Various forum members leave there camera out, unchecked for a month or more. I can understand this if driving distance say over 10 or even 20 miles one way due to time and fuel costs. One is taking a chance on: 1)filling up the card quickly due to moving grass, branches leaves, rain or snow. 2)freezing rain (in colder areas) the camera could be froze over for several days. 3)damage by animals if not in a security box. 4)batteries dropping in voltage resulting in the camera not functioning properly or not at all. Any one battery dropping to 1.0 to 1.2 volt, the camera will not function properly or not at all. 5)a slim chance but it has happened: the camera gets legs and walks away. I am using the above mentioned SD cards in SpyPoint IRB, Moultrie GameSpy D55-IR, D55-IRXT, M100, and the 2009 Bushnell Trophy Trail Cameras. All cameras are set to video (my interest). Moultrie takes a picture first, then the video. Good luck in your selection. Have fun. |
