+1 and to answer your question I like non typical racks so I wouldn't mind him running around for a few extra years

lips 101 08-26-2012 10:33 PM

i would pass on both but it also has to do one where your hunting at. that young buck looks to have a split g2 i cant wait to see him when he gets to be 4 or 5

Shoobee 08-26-2012 11:07 PM

The bigger one has more meat on his bones, but if you know of even bigger ones in the area then hold out, sure.

I would also pass on both...

Cheers/bg

Personally I would pass them but with that said thats a personal choice and depends on where you are in your hunting life. If its bigger than anything you have ever killed and you would be excited to kill it then shoot them. What ever your goal is just be true to yourself and be proud of any animal you take!!!!!!!!

CRhodes 08-27-2012 04:36 AM

Since I hunt for food, I shoot the first legal deer I see every time I go out. The bigger the better-more meat.

If I were managing a herd for antlers, I'd let 'em live...

snapper1982 08-27-2012 06:31 AM

i would pass them both but if i were restricted to one it would be the 8. he appears to be a 3.5 yr old with a bigger body. the other one looks to be 2.5

absolutly. you have no reason not to. he may have just damaged the antler early in the growing. he may have had an injury in the past. both of which would not be in his genes to pass on. or he may have non typical genes and if you have ever seen the way those deer can turn out given some age then you need to google it because they can get huge.

jt2309 08-27-2012 07:08 AM

thanks for the imput.

notredame17 08-28-2012 05:24 AM

I would pass. My hunt club requires 125 or higher to shoot. both dont make 125

elmoughler 08-28-2012 05:36 AM

I'd shoot either one. I go out every year to feed my family.

Joey3377 08-29-2012 07:48 AM

I go hunting for the meat so I would take both of them.

AR Bowhunter 08-29-2012 04:11 PM

Pass will be a lot better deer next year.

Master Chief 08-29-2012 04:41 PM

I definately wouldn't shoot the second one.

The first one, probably but my biggest was only 90"

backwoods13 08-30-2012 05:33 AM

I would pass. But it is up to you, if your happy with them take him..

i pray that you,joey3377 and CRhodes are nowhere near my land.
QDMA "let him grow so he can grow." you can always wait for a doe. there is alot more does than bucks. if you hunt for meat you should have no problem shooting doe's. to shoot small bucks and calling it meat hunting is embarrassing to your self and ignorant. please look at the buck to doe ratio in your aira and prove me wrong

BowPassion 09-01-2012 06:48 PM

pass on both! they're too young

Arrowmaster 09-02-2012 05:01 AM

I would pass as well

Keep in mind, not all areas have 'doe days' the entire season. For example, in VA where I hunt, I get 5 tags and throughout ML and rifle season I only get 3 doe days. That means I have to take 2 bucks. If I'm after meat and horns don't matter, then it's quite feasable that 2 "small" bucks will be shot.

Just as a helpful hint, before you start calling someone out, make sure you have all the facts.

golfpro261 09-05-2012 05:48 AM

Passing for sure... smile as they walk away on your land and say, see you in 2 years!

once that velvet comes off, you will see how tiny his rack will be as well.

BUCKEYEhunter140 09-11-2012 06:41 PM

I would pass them both the one with the odd rack looks like it might be his 1st rack if thats the case then he might really be something in 2-4 years. I killed a great buck last year and it's only because i watched him as a goofy messed up racked 2.5 yr. old and passed him. then he cleaned up at 3.5 and at 4.5 he kept the main frame 8 grew splits on his g2's brow tine g3 and his main beam even had a split. Thats when i killed him :)

Point being GIVE HIM A CHANCE

fact there are states witch have a buck to doe ratio that is off balance with more bucks than does how ever the ozarks are on the border of IL and missouri in witch case there are more does than bucks, so in this case there is no excuse. in either case i beleave that you should let younger deer grow for the health of the herd no mater how many tags there are you will see more deer and of better quality.

Damon 09-19-2012 02:20 PM

pass on byyeeeee

Jollyarcher 09-19-2012 03:34 PM

Too young and lots of potential there. They'd both walk.

Phil from Maine 09-20-2012 12:05 AM

Here with our deer numbers being what they are I would shoot either one if I had a chance to. If we had a better number of deer then I too, most likely would pass on them.

pnut 09-20-2012 04:23 AM

I'd pass on both.
Let them grow.

junkmonkey17 09-23-2012 06:37 PM

i would shoot the first 1 for sure and probially the second one because if your like me and have an idiot hunting club next to you that shoots EVERYTHING i would shoot it before he goes to them

VTWhitetail14 09-26-2012 10:09 AM

First one, not a chance i'd shoot him. he'd walk at least 2 more years..and the 2nd, i'd only take him to get the genetics out of my herd..
