no loose skin in the brisket\neck area and slender appearing body indicates it's a younger deer. I would say probably 2.5-3.5 depending on where you are located.

Pix #3 says 2.5. Not even a lil swale in his gut or his back. His white belly hair is a straight line.

2.5 yr old...ears look clean...not much of a fighter yet...I think he will be fine in a year or two. Take your time...don't worry about him hurting your genetics. Have fun and hunt. If you want to take him, you don't need an excuse about genetics...he's legal, so take him if you want. Hunting should give you a thrill. A lot of guys have shot bigger deer and would let him walk. Other folks might not have had as much luck and/or experience and this deer would give them a great rush. So, basically, do what your heart and mind lead you to. I just would caution you against trying to rationalize your decision to shoot down to the whole genetics argument.

I don't like judging age on summer deer, but I would call him 3.5. Management buck? Depends depends on what you are looking to grow in your heard. Right now, he's probably going to score about 100-110. If he is 3.5 years old now, he will be about 120-130 at maturity(5.5-6.5 years old). If you are trying to grow 150-170 class deer, he needs a bullet.

most deer in the area at 5 are in the 170 to 180 so i think he needs a bullet. i do agree to a point about genetics but i think there is a place for it. i still get a rush any time i getb in my stand or draw back on even a doe. my girlfriend is ganna start to hunt this year so ill let her take him if the shot presents it self.
