Missing Trail Cameras
 

I bought my first 2 trail cameras this year and after leaving them out for about 2.5 weeks I finally made it back out today to pull the cards. Both cameras are missing! We have a lot of bear in the area and there was bear sign around both camera sites but the metal screw holders didn't look like they were ripped out of the bark of tree's it looked like they were screwed out, but I can't be for certain. $230 + down the drain! I hunt private land and only know of 1 other guy that hunts this section of the property. Who knows. :confused0024:

theft of cameras is why I haven't bought and put out any. I am too cheep to suffer losing expensive cameras to thieves.

On a few occasions, I remembered incorrectly where I put them. Found one 6 months later. Never know.

shooter50: Sorry to hear of your loss. Bears love messing with cameras. They seem to like to realign them. I used to just strap the cameras to the trees. This worked for a while until the camera housing where the strap goes through got broke on one and a buckle got broke on another. Since then, all my cameras in bear country are in metal bear safe boxes, lag bolted with 2 inch lag bolts to the tree with a large flat washer installed inside the bear safe box on each lag bolt to re-enforce the box. The reason for long bolts, some trees have a thick bark that will not hold much. As for thieves, no matter how you try to protect your cameras, if they want it bad enough they will either get it or destroy it in the process.

I have had 3 or 4 cameras stolen- all on private property. Don't underestimate the ability of trespassing, poaching, thieving scumbags.

Start watching craigslist and etc. in your area. You never know when the thieves might try to sell them.
