The Potential is There!

Here are a few pics from my trail cam that I picked up yesterday. I think both these deer need another year, they both look young to me (2.5 maybe?). Regardless though, the potential is there for them to be nice deer next year. Haven't caught a shooter for this year on camera yet.

Wide 8:

Symmetrical 8:

I caught these bucks on camera several different days and they were always running together. Obviously the time on the camera is wrong, they seem to be coming through around 10 am each day.

Nice looking bucks.

Definitely potential there. I'd wait more than a year though...

Well there's certainly no guarantee that they will even make it through this season. There's one other guy that hunts on that land who is a little trigger happy on young bucks and he has a 12 year old son who would definitely pull the trigger on either of those. I'm fine with the kid taking one but I hope the dad lays off if he sees them.

How old do you think these deer are? I was thinking 2.5 but maybe they aren't even that old. I'm just glad to see some good genes running through my area. I love the look of the 2nd buck. Hope to see him in a year or two. :fighting0007:

That's what I was going to say.

Western KY... I'm bad at aging deer, but a few years ago my dad killed an 8 that was a lot bigger than either of these that was aged at 2.5. I'm just guessing that to be the age of these but like I said, I'm not real great at this stuff. Thought you guys might be able to tell better than I would.

I have some more pictures of the two where you can see their whole bodies. These were just the best of their racks. You could probably tell more age-wise from the other pictures.

Wowzers... that first one is especially nice. Another 2 years and he'll be ridiculously wide!

Even if he never gains any more width, if he just puts on some mass and gains some height he will definitely be a shooter to me. I just hope these guys make it through the year (and hopefully knock up a lot of does.)

Yeah- good call. I should have said that he's ridiculously wide NOW but in a few years after he puts on some girth and height- LOOK OUT! I'm jealous :)

BigDaddy12t 09-20-2011 04:44 PM

I agree, they will both be studs next year, but I have to be honest, I could not pass on either one of them, if thet came by my stand this year.

Maddog10 09-20-2011 06:59 PM

Well neither of them are really bigger than what I've shot the last two years so I'm willing to take a year without a deer if it means a good one next year. I'm still hoping a mature buck will pop up on the camera at some point though.
