I would say a warble. Pike

It appears to be an abscessed wound of some sort. You can easily see the draining pus.

PastorJim08 08-13-2011 12:43 AM

Looks nasty.

Blessings......Pastorjim

Looks like an injury thats healing up.
It should be healed up by hunting season.

BigDaddy12t 08-13-2011 07:50 AM

Hard to say what it is, but it sure does look nasty.

matt068 08-13-2011 06:15 PM

Looks very similar to a wound we saw on a deer last yr and we eventually shot In our case it was a large thorn about 2 inches long all summer would swell burst then do it all over thorn was causing it to fester all around this thorny spike Just a thought may be similar

Ask yer neighborhood poachers to atleast use broadheads!!! and centerfire rifles(not air-rifles)! I hope she makes it! She might need more protein to promote healing. Is it lawful in your area to feed/bait?

onion721 08-15-2011 05:42 PM

The doe is definitely sickly, compared to others she has a dull coat and no sparkle in her eyes.
I imagine she's not going to make it.
Looking more closely at the shots, it seems that there might be as many as 4 of those growths.

onion721 08-19-2011 05:18 PM

New pics
Poor doe has to be suffering.

And a healthy doe for comparison.

HardwoodHunter 08-19-2011 09:20 PM

ah man, that's tough to see...she looks awful skinny too...:(

Hunt4Life23 08-20-2011 07:07 AM

her coat is dull because she is transitioning coats, which all the deer will be doing very shortly which you can see in the neck of the healthy doe you showed a picture of. I would not be surprised if she makes it through, as she still seems to be eating and moving around just fine. Also doesnt look like she lost any weight or worsened in condition since the first picture

PREDATE 08-22-2011 04:38 AM

I've got a doe with some problems too,( roadrash and walking on her wrist). Looking better, her fawn is doing great! That is a nasty opening but she's still hanging in there!

onion721 08-30-2011 07:12 AM

Still oozing, no signs of healing up.

And an odd little buck.

marquismarc 08-31-2011 09:14 AM

That's a nasty looking wound!

itsslow98 09-05-2011 09:11 PM

If you shoot her you will have a double blood trail at least. I would probably let her go, if she is still eating and up moving around she cant be too bad.

This is pretty sad really. I think she looks alot worse in this picture than the first one you posted.

onion721 09-08-2011 07:25 AM

No new pics on the last camera run.
I've moved the camera to a different location so no more updates are likely.

onion721 01-07-2012 06:46 PM

Looks like she survived, resilient deer is resilient.
Need a good day time pic, it'll happen eventually.

matt068 03-21-2012 05:07 PM

they are tough

Phil from Maine 03-25-2012 04:17 PM

Yeah, that is very sad to see.. I am thinking she had likely been hit by a car or something along those lines.. But, who knows? I hope she heals up alright. I do believe that there will always be a growth of some sort even if it heals..
