Trail Camera?
 

I just bought my first trail camera and put it out today. I was wondering how long should I leave it alone before checking it?

Depends on how many deer you hav in your area? Did you put it over bait? Trails? etc.

I'd say probally a week - 2 weeks.

Ya I would say 1-3 weeks and it might take the deer some time to get use to the camera being there so you might not get a lot of pics at first. Just be patient though and they will eventually come to it.

It really depends how many deer are in your area and what type of cam you have. If you set it up to take pics every 10secs you will have alot more pics than every 60secs. What size sd card you have will also determine how often to check it if you are getting alot of photos. For example I set mine for every 10secs once before and had 1530 pics in 3 days over bait but when I backed it off to every 30 secs I only had 350 in 5 days. It really is all personal preference and how easy it is to get to as well. Good luck and you will be hooked on getting pics for quite sometime to come.

I usually check my trail camera's every 1 to 2 weeks...if I happen to go out and do some wood cutting I take some spare batteries and extra SD cards to change them out if I think its getting close to when the batteries are going to be low of charge?

During the winter months sometimes I wait longer,if I'm out Bow Hunting and I'm hunting near the camera's any ways I may check them to see when any Deers have been at the mineral and salt lick!Most of the times I will carry a spare digital camera along with me,then pull the SD cards and while I'm up in my ladder stand I will view the pictures to pass the time away! ;)

Like everybody has said, depends. This time of year when I just want to see what was left after the season about two weeks over a scrape, then I'll move it to another scrape a half-mile or so away. A few years ago I had 21 different bucks in one scape in 10 days. Over bait you will get everything in the woods from crows, turkeys, fox, coyotes, squirrels, coons, possums, armadillo and every bird in the woods.

This time of year I will check my cameras every week or two. A couple of my cameras will have nearly 2500 pictures on them during this period of time. During the hunting season I check them twice a week to keep up on deer movement.

Every two to three weeks...if you can stand it!

I agree every 1-2 weeks but I have found the more you check them, you a leaving some human scent everytime you check them. I wear rubber gloves and try to minimize my scent. Its hard because a week feels like a month. Welcome to the crazy addiction. Scoot
