First Time Putting Out A Trail Camera. How To Info Needed.
It's the first time, I have put a trail camera up.
Here is the deer sign, I found. Not from the trail camera. How long do you usely wait before checking the camera for pictures? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I usually check mine every 1-2 weeks. Of course after you start getting pics. it will become harder and harder to wait between checks. Just like Christmas!

I couldn't wait, and got 9 jpegs, and 238 - 14 second videos of air.
I gues I need to wait longer. I just wanted to make sure the cam was pointed in the right direction. |
How about some pointers guys?
I need some helpfull information. Thank You |

well usually the best place is over bait...but if ya cant bait..get on a deer trail, walk it fer awhile..and find an area where 5 or more trails meat<<get it? thats a pun..meat..lol....nm..where they meet at..put the cam up in a natural Y or W or T or whatever..dont put it in the path the animals take..
..have the camera set on every 30 seconds..cause they come by in groups..in my experience..video is kewl too...if it has a flash, i notice the big guys dont like it, but the does will hang around..so your huntin daytime anyways, so leave the flash off imo |

is it legal to bait where you have the camera out? also what type of camera? if your not going to bait find a well used trail in the area with a lot of sign and put the camera over that trail
|
If you can use bait, do it. It will help you overcome alot of other things such as slow trigger speed. It also tends to distract the deer from the camera. I know it's hard, especially with as hot as it's been, but try to be as scent free as possible. Make sure yiur camera isn't looking into a rising or setting sun. That can make the camera do some crazy things. If you are not using a security box, I highly recommend you get one. I try to avoid putting my cams in places that are easily accessable to others, that's just inviting trouble. Have fun and enjoy your new addiction!

I try to keep mine around 3 feet off the ground. That works best for me anyways. I also try to keep it in an area without a lot of leaves blowing as it can cause the cam to take alot of unwanted pics.. Good Luck with getting some pics for us..
