Looky at what I got.........

My local archery shop has put some trail cameras in my hands for some testing.
I have been getting some great pictures with my existing trail camera and he wanted me to do some in the field testing with some camera that he is going to carry. I will post results and pictures over the next few weeks.
Boy it feels almost like Christmas.

The cameras are:

Wildgame X6C

Predator trailcams Traileye IR

Spypoint IR-6

whitetail_fanatic 08-06-2010 02:04 PM

Thats awsome, I would be on cloud 9. He doesn't have anymore for testing does he. Lol

Yeh, LOL.
They actually are not a gift, But I am getting to use them for a month or so.

I have four Bushnells that I own out now.
I may put some of these not far from the bushnells to see differences in picture quality and so on.

whitetail_fanatic 08-06-2010 02:13 PM

I'm curious to see what kind of pic quality you get out of the Predator, I know the wildview won't be the best, and I'v never heard of spypoint.

They all will be out tomorrow morning.

Hunt4Life23 08-06-2010 02:51 PM

thats not a wildview, its wildgame innovations and the picture quality on that should be very good. cant wait to see pictures from the 3! what an awesome deal to get to test them.

2robinhood 08-06-2010 03:12 PM

Yes, my mistake.

It is a Wildgame X6C

littlearrow 08-06-2010 04:32 PM

whitetail fanatic: I have two Spy Point IRB trail cameras. I have been well satisfied with them. These cameras are manufactured in Quebec, Canada. For more information go to: www.SpyPoint.com The camera is fairly large, uses 6 "C" batteries. They have a gripper tooth system at the back of the camera so they won't slide on the tree. The strap has what I call a roll over buckle: just tighten the strap and lever over the buckle. The camera can be set for picture or video and accept up to an 8 GB SD card. I use Lexar and SanDisk cards, just format a used card in the computer and your set to go. I think the newer versions will accept up to 16 GB. Camera set up is very easy. Customer service has been excellent. Warranty is one year from the manufacture. The camera also has a 12 volt external port. Information on their site is a little hard to get into. It is listed in French and English. Being they are a French company, their priority is the French language, but bouncing around in the site one can usually find what one is looking for, or just email them. Good luck in your testing.

2robinhood 08-06-2010 05:15 PM

I did a quick video test of the Wildgame and Spypoint.
It was low light conditions, the Wildgame DID NOT use it's IR's where the Spypoint DID us it's IR's.
I am going outside now to do a video with each camera and compare quality and brightness.
Here are the low light condition videos of the two camera test.
Note these videos were taken at the exact time.

2robinhood 08-06-2010 06:30 PM

Starting with the Wildgame X6C.
It is small and compact.
Easy to navigate and set.
Easy to open and attach with included bungy cord straps.
18 IR's

Now about the night video test I just did, my path in front of each camera was 40 feet away. I could not trigger the Wildgame camera until I got about 35 feet away.
During each video from each camera I circled around the same bush for IR distance test of each camera.
The Wildgame also has a noticeable red light that flashes when movement is present. It will flash until the IR's glow red and the camera take the video.
When the video is finish the red blinking light now flashes green.
Compare this video to the others.

*** Note the quality after uploaded to YouTube is very, very poor. It is much better then what you see on Youtube, but you will see a difference between the different cameras videos ***

2robinhood 08-06-2010 06:31 PM

Spypoint IR-6
Semi compact.
Easy to navigate and set up.
46 IR illumination.
Tiggered in low light IR's befor the other two cameras.
Inside falls out everytime you open the door.

Videos is same as above, enter at 40 feet and circle around bush at 50 feet.

Don't forget low quality of YouTube.

Picture of insides that fall out.

2robinhood 08-06-2010 06:31 PM

Predator Traileye IR
Largest of the group.
The easiest to navigate and set up.
Cleanest inside.
Only takes 10 second videos ( that's it )
47 IR illumination.
Sound for video mode.

Same as video test above.

Same poor quality YouTube

Best and brightest video of the group.

Two 10 second videos.

2robinhood 08-06-2010 06:36 PM

Tomorrow I am going to put them out in the field and see how they perform in the woods.

2robinhood 08-14-2010 09:05 AM

OK, pulled the cameras.
Owner of archery shop needed the cameras for the weekend for display purposes at his vendor both.
He will return them for me to put back in the field for more test.

I will do the next few post about what I found for each camera in the 1st week they were out.

2robinhood 08-14-2010 09:16 AM

OK, 1st up is the Wildgame X6C.

I must have not hit enter to change it from video mode to picture mode when I was doing the 1st night testing, so I only have videos and no still pictures. ( Sorry ).
Camera held time and date perfectly.
It took 29 videos in the weeks time, my Bushnell is three trees over and took 429 pictures ( three picture burst with 2 second delay between burst ).
Battery life seemed untouched. ( using Duracell rechargeables 2650mah ).
Video quality is very good, day and night.
I am going to up load videos to photobucket hoping quality is better the Youtube.
Next time out I will put it right next to the Bushnell for speed and quality comparison.
I won't forget the picture mode this time. :bash:

Here are some videos from the Wildgame.

2robinhood 08-14-2010 09:43 AM

Predator Traileye IR up next.

Predator did not hold time or date. ( went to Jan. 2010 )
Reasons, I don't know, I'll reset and see what happens next time out.
Reaction time is slower them my Bushnells.
Deer were almost out of picture frame when picture was taken.
Seemed to be low on quantity of pictures, my Bushnell get 125+ pictures per week ( Predator had 9 picture in the week ).
Don't forget that the fastest the Predator will take pictures is one picture every ten seconds. ( my Bushnells are set at 3 picture burst with a 2 second delay in between burst )
Picture quality is EXCELLENT, very sharp and clear.
When camera was put out battery gauge was at 98%, after the week and only 9 pictures it was down to 60%. ( Duracell rechargeables 2650mah ).
I'll see what next time out brings.
Here are some pictures.

2robinhood 08-14-2010 09:59 AM

Last up, Spypoint IR6.

Spypoint did not hold time, Date was right, but it lost 5+ hours in the weeks time.
Battery level is done in 1/3rds on the Spypoins gauge.
When out at full charge and ended at the 2/3rds in the weeks time.
Took about the same weekly amount as my Bushnells in this location.
Reaction time is slower then the Bushnells.
Objects were further into the first picture then compared to the bushnells.
Picture quality is good, but seemed blurry on movement.
In the last picture, I approached from far away from the camera, walked in a fa fairly slow pace and this was the first picture of the four picture burst.
This may help you get an idea of reaction time from me walking in.

2robinhood 08-14-2010 10:06 AM

Maybe to do a little quality comparison.

These two pictures where at the same exact spot, just at different time.

Fawm picture on the Bushnell is set @ 5mp and in daylight the Predator is also 5mp.

Both picture have clouds in the sky, but I am not sure of how much bright light.

Colors and detail, the Predator has the edge.

PastorJim08 08-14-2010 10:15 AM

Great reviews, thanks for going to all the trouble to do them. I really like the picture quality of the predator but it sounds like it may have alot of other issues.

Blessings.....Pastorjim

About the Predator,
I am going to go through the manual again and see what I can find.
There is no picture burst mode, fastest is one picture with a 10 second delay. (one picture every 10 seconds ).
Longest and fastet video is 10 seconds long and with a 10 second delay.

I didn't like finding the batteries so low after a week alomg with the time and date being messed up.

Trigger speed needs to be faster, but the picture quality was excellent.

2robinhood 08-15-2010 04:11 AM

Here is some info that Casingame.com have on the Wildgame X6C.
They say it will use a set of batteries in a month.
The daytime trigger speed is @ 2.75 seconds.
Night time trigger speed is @ 1.89 seconds.

itsslow98 08-15-2010 08:46 PM

I bet the wildgame takes some of the best still pics of the three. My IR4 takes very good stills. Havent tried video yet.

2robinhood 08-19-2010 03:42 AM

I pulled the camera for the owner of the archery shop to display at his vendor booth at a 3D shoot.
But camera have been returned to me and are back in the woods.
I have the, setting wise, as close to the settings on my Bushnells as I can get.
They are also mounted on the same trees and facing the same spots as the Bushnells for a direct comparison.
The only issue I can see with them being put on the tree like this, is night time IR pictures.
If both cameras go off at the same time, there will be more IR's then just a single camera.
I will retrieve the cards from all on Saturday and post my findings.

halfbakedi420 08-19-2010 05:15 AM

sweet, i am lookin forward to the same picture taken on all 3 cams, the 3 ya got + your Bushnell, to see which is the best....i have to show a lil non-love for AA and C and D batts..i think they should all take 6V lantern batts, equipped with rechargeable batt and solar panel. waitin on sunday to see results thx

2robinhood 08-20-2010 04:56 PM

I pulled the card from the Wildgame X6C and the 09 Busnell trophy cam tonight.
Like I stated earlier, they were mount one right above the other on the same tree.

The both cameras were set to take as fast of pictures as they possibly can with the least amount of delay between pictures.
( Wildgame ) 1 picture with 30second delay.
( Bushnell ) 3 picture burst with 2 second delay.
Wildgame took 67 pictures and the Bushnell took 443 pictures.

Both camera started 4 1/2 minutes apart and finished 4 1/2 minutes apart.
No time or date issues.

The feild of detection on the Wildgame is not as wide or as far as the Bushnell.
The bushnell was triggered and the 1st picture the deer wasn't even in the picture yet.
The bushnell took two picture before the Wildgame even took one.
This happened at evey time change when both cameras were triggered.
Bushnell first , Wildgame second.
You will see this in the pictures below.
The Wildgame did take nice pictures and I was very happy with the videos.
I really don't care for the videos of the Bushnell ( grainy looking ).
IR night picture seemed brighter with the Wildgame over the Bushnell.
The Wildgame delay was set at 30 seconds, but was inconsistant in the time between some of it's pictures ( 30 seconds, 47 seconds, 25 seconds and so on ).
I feel the Wildgames colors maybe a little better then the Bushnell.
The detail of the pictures on the Wildgame are sharper and should be since the Wildgame is 6mp and the Bushnell is a 5mp.

Here are the pictures.
First one is the first picture taken by the Wildgame followed by the Bushnell pictures till it matched the Wildgame picture. As you can see the deer isn't even in the Bushnells first picture yet, but in the third Bushnell picture it is the same exact time ( taken ) as the Wildgame ( double IR flash ).

Second series of pictures.
In this series the Bushnell took five pictures before the Wildgame took it's first one.

2robinhood 08-20-2010 05:09 PM

Here are a few more pictures from the Wildgame @ night.
They are brighter then the Bushnell.
Wildgame has 18 IR's and the Bushnell has 24.
Wildgame claims High intensity IR's and it seems that they are.

2robinhood 08-20-2010 05:11 PM

Tomorrow I will be getting the cards from the Spypoint and the Predator.

2robinhood 08-22-2010 07:29 AM

Not much to show from this set of cameras ( Spypoint & Bushnell ) they both only took 6 pictures. ( no animals )

Both seemed to react at the same time, but the Bushnells take the following pictures faster then the Spypoint.
The Spypoint also lost time again, lost two hours in 3 1/2 days.
You can see the difference in the pictures below.
Reacted the same, but the Bushnell took three pictures of the ATV, were the Spypoint only got two.
Time between the Spypoints pictures is 10 seconds and between the Bushnells pictures was 3 seconds.
Even today when I walked up to get the cards, the Bushnell got two pictures of me and the Spypoint only got one.
Here are all six pictures from each camera, plus one showing how they are mounted.

Spypoint

Bushnell

This is how they are mounted.

2robinhood 08-22-2010 07:57 AM

Pictures were very few @ the Predator and Bushnell also.
Predator took 13 pictures and the Bushnell took 33 pictures.
I am going to call Predator cameras, their website say the camera can take up three pictures.
The package does not say that, the instruction manual does not say that, and I don't see anything in the set up of the camera for it.
The quality of the Predators pictures are amazing.
It held time just like before.
Reaction time is slower then the Bushnell.
You will see things in the Bushnells pictures before you see it in the Predators picture.
Bushnells second picture is about equal to the predators 1st picture.
The Bushnell also took three pictures at night of a skunk that the predator never detected.
1st picture is how the cameras were mounted , followed by the Predators pictures with the Bushnells corresponding pictures..
Also more pictures will be in the next post

2robinhood 08-22-2010 08:06 AM

But like I said, the Predators picture quality, brightness and colors is awesome.
Look at the difference in the last pictures from each camera.
It is a very overcast day and the Predators picture is superb.

PastorJim08 08-22-2010 08:22 AM

Man, thanks for doing all this. I know it was probably a labor of love but still it's alot of work. I like the Predator daytime pics and the Wildgame innovations IR pics the best. I also liked the Spypoint daytime pics over the Bushnell. I thought they had better contrast and clarity. It sounds from your review though, that Bushnell's detection and trigger speed was superior to all of them. While I really want the best pic I can get, you still have to get a pic in the first place. What you wrote about the Predator's trigger time is dissaponiting because that is an expensive camera and the only thing it seemed to have going for it was it's picture quality.

Blessings.....Pastorjim

2robinhood 08-22-2010 08:27 AM

Here are the three pictures that the Bushnell took and the Predator never detected.
The poor little guy didn't make it too far before an owl got him.

There definitely is a big time quality difference.

And also a big difference in detection/trigger speed.

But I am still amazed of the clarity, brightness, and colors of the predators pictures.

2robinhood 08-22-2010 08:46 AM

This is one of my all time favorite pictures that I got and I would love to see how the Predator would have took the picture.

2robinhood 08-22-2010 05:02 PM

I also reset the Predator and Spypoint with the Bushnells to videos mode for the next test.

doman 08-24-2010 07:11 AM

I have the Xc6, and like it. Am using it in video mode, the quality of pics( if deer are standing still) and video are much better than the Bushnell, In Pic mode if deer are moving the blur is unacceptable. Trigger speed is slower than the bushnell but if the camera outlast the bushnells than its a decent buy.

2robinhood 08-29-2010 04:51 PM

OK, pulled the cards today from the Wildgame and the Bushnell.
These were set on picture mode.
Bushnell reacts faster, but not by much.
Wildgame colors and detail are better, but take alot of images ( animals ) blurry.
Wildgame has much brighter IR for night time pictures, but the Bushnells allow you to see deeper into the woods.
Here are same pictures from each camera followed by some of the blurry one from the Wildgame.
All in all, the Wildgame is a great camera for the money and has taken the best videos of any camera that I have tried.

2robinhood 08-29-2010 05:05 PM

The Predator and Bushnell were on video mode this week.
Activity was light again, but this is what I got.
You can compare these videos to each other.
The Predator took 12 and the bushnell took 17.
The bushnell videoed a doe in the day that never triggered the Predator and a cat at night which also never triggered the Predator.
These are the corresponding videos from both cameras.
The Bushnell triggered first in every video.

Next is the Spypoint and a Bushnell.
Well, no activity here at all.
Only videos are of me walking out after setting the cameras and me walking in to get the cards.
But, you can compare the videos for yourself.

Oh, and I figured out how to set the Predator to do a 3 picture burst and longer video.
It is set on 3 picture burst now in a different spot.
Hopefully some cool pictures.
