Is this a coyote?

passthru79 07-17-2010 02:32 PM

Looks awfuly big for a yote. Wouldnt be the first time a timber wolf has had its picture taken in the midwest.

Arrowmaster 07-17-2010 03:15 PM

I agree thats awful big to be a coyote. Looks more like a young wolf...

J.M.A.N. 07-17-2010 03:51 PM

I lived in Alaska for twenty years...that's a wolf!

janesburg 07-17-2010 04:32 PM

Where in WI was the pic taken? Regardless I say wolf.

buldog762000 07-17-2010 04:54 PM

It is in Dane county about 10 miles south of Mt. Horeb

BigDaddy12t 07-17-2010 05:27 PM

I would say Wolf!

WIbuckchaser 07-17-2010 06:40 PM

Definite wolf, I'd probably mistake it for a coyote during deer season.

Hunting Kuk 07-17-2010 06:57 PM

either a monster youte or wolf although ive never seen a wolf and in the first pic I'm pretty sure he was looken into my sole I looked at the picture and got goosebumps!

Mottz 07-17-2010 07:12 PM

That has to make a guy feel good when walking to the stand in the dark.:jaw:

Colorado Luckydog 07-17-2010 07:31 PM

I'm not an expert but I would say it was a hybrid yote. Probably a cross between a yote and a german sheperd. Or something along those lines.

metalbender 07-17-2010 07:53 PM

I'd say wolf :confused0024:

lemoyne 07-18-2010 05:55 AM

Looks like some of the coydogs that have shown up around here.

spaniel 07-18-2010 08:49 AM

There are several features that are wrong for a coyote. It could be a young wolf or a coydog.

I'm not that far from you. I'll keep my eyes open.:s1:

love the picture, wolves can make your hair stand on end, I was sitting in the stand two years ago and had four come in to a grunt, right up the shooting lane, as soon as they spoted me they circle behind and howled, i have some footage of it i will try and load it on our webpage www.nwoproductions.com be on the look out for it.

RonPenner 07-22-2010 10:19 AM

Indianabucks 07-23-2010 04:47 AM

hunting-addict 07-23-2010 08:28 AM

yukonmountainman 07-23-2010 08:43 AM

thats a wolf

smokepolehall 07-23-2010 09:36 AM

Durn soon as i saw its face i knowed you gotstid a wolf ! Deer killing machine!

Big10Hunter 07-25-2010 06:50 AM

Don't think it is a coyote. It looks too big and has too broad of a muzzle. I'd say it is a wolf or coywolf hybrid.

buldog762000 08-04-2010 06:18 PM

The DNR's wildlife biologist has confirmed this to be a coyote. Said it maybe a cross but it is for sure a coyote. Thanks for all the input.

Huntingtherut 08-04-2010 06:56 PM

Im not a wildlife biologist, but with my experience in the woods and hunting coyotes, I would disagree with him. Who am I to say one way or another though. Looks like a wolf to me!!!

WisconsinBowHunter 08-05-2010 06:24 AM

Even though the DNR deny having wolves thats what it is, i encountered 2 wolves and a bobcat in our woods and the cat attack my archery target!!!!!!!!

halfbakedi420 08-05-2010 07:11 AM

too small to be a wolf..i dont mean height..it could be part dog, but it has coyote features.

marquismarc 08-06-2010 06:05 AM

It's a wolf

x2, that is a creepy lookin picture. very cool tho

mr4pt 08-06-2010 09:11 AM

Of coarse your DNR said it was a coyote instead of a wolf. If they admitted it was a wolf they would have issues..

I have never seen a wolf in the wild but I have killed TONS of yotes. That, my friend, is not a coyote.

aarontriton 08-06-2010 09:23 AM

It sure looks like a young wolf to me seems to big to be a yote
