Moultire Not Working in Cold Weather
Anybody have trouble with their Moultrie not working in cold weather. When it gets below about 20 degrees, my camera does not take pictures. I'll walk up to it and it will be off. Sometimes, if it's really cold, I can't even turn it on until it's been in the house for a few minutes.
I had it set up for a week up at the camp and got zero pictures. A ton of fresh deer tracks in the snow all around it, too. Very disappointing. It runs on 6 D batteries. Which were brand new the last time this happened. |
Maybe try a different brand of batteries, and get them from somewhere that sells a lot of them. That way you know they're fresh. There's always a chance the "new" batteries you bought were old. The problems you've had are battery problems, not camera problems, so that's good.

You can try different batteries, at twenty it should take pics, but it will be more sluggish. Much below twenty and mine doesn't hardly work worth crap either...the digital portions just don't like the cold if you ask me. But, mine has taken pics at zero...its just a little slower to "wake up".

what model is this happening with? when I took my I40 out of the woods 2 weeks ago it was -8 and it was frozen shut with ice and still took a picture when I walked up to it. I dont remember what batteries I have in it, I will have to check later.

Thanks for the replies.
I forget the model off the top of my head. 3.0 or 4.0 something. It was $100 at Cabela's. When I fire the camera up, it says Battery: 99% so I was assuming the batteries were fresh. Could that be wrong? |
D-40? I have two of them, and the batteries die quick in colder weather under 20 degrees. Do you use rechargeables?
|
No, just plain old Duracell or Energizer.
|
My D40 does the same thing. Not the batteries fault. If you get a 99% reading then it should take the pic. Sub Zero temps with no pics seems to be a bad characteristic of the D40. Still a decent camera for the $ in above freezing temps.

For $99, I can't complain. I've gotten some awesome pictures from it. But this last few weeks it's been useless

I like the cam, but it just doesnt work great in colder temps. I have a I-40 for the IR instead of flash.....has anyone seen it where the deer are spooked? I havent seen it. But they are good for a under $100 cam.
The I-40 is doing really well in cold temps, very impressed with battery life. |
