My first shoulder mount, (and only mount) is a buck that is under 120". I have another rack on the wall, that I wish to this day I would have had him mounted, he is about the same size. If I had the money, I would mount every deer I shoot, they are all trophies to me. Besides, I just love the looks of a whitetail deer.

I would say it depends on the person who shot the deer.

I think it depends on where you shot the deer and what it meant to you. Where I live Ny/VT border you do not see many big antlered deer. The biggest buck in the surrounding towns shot in any given year would prolly be right around 120. Most people I know here mount 8 pt bucks..but they dont score real high because the antlers just dont have the mass as they do in the mid west. The problem around here is that people shoot pretty much anything with horns, therefore the odds of seeing a 3.5 yr old deer is about zero. I live in 5s ny.
Also I say there is nothing wrong in mounting a first buck... bow or gun. Im getting a 7 pt i got this yr mounted because its my fist archery buck.

It don't have to be big for It to go on the wall. 1st deer ever, 1st buck ever, etc! It has allot to do with how special the hunt was.

I have to agree with some of the last posts. If my kids shoot a spike buck or even a doe for their 1st deer its going on the wall. As for myself Id say 140s but who knows. If its got one of those weird and crazy racks yet its small Id probably get it mounted. Depends on a lot of things I guess.

Why does it it matter how big the deer is. All that matters is what it means to the person who takes the deer. I have three that are mounted now, but there are some I sholud have gotten mounted but chose not to. The next one has to be over twenty inches wide.

Thanks for all of the opinions! Personally, I would say 150 on up would get a shoulder mount, unless there was a "special one"

I have 2 currently mounted and 1 at the taxidermist, all 3 score between 136 and 140. My wife and i made an agreement that the next one is going to have to be close to the 150 mark to get mounted, but depending on the deer and the situation things could change.

I have a 125 on the wall but it was my first +100 buck. Anymore I don't even shoot unless I think he'll go 135+. Around here there are some very good taxidermist doing mounts under $400. European mounts and horns on velvet/plaque look very nice too. I have a couple of those that turned out great and cost less than $50 if you do most of it yourself.
