Moultrie Battery Life Report
Guys, I have two Moultries - a 5.0 "Outfitters" flash model Moultrie makes for Cabala's, and an M40 flash model.
Just for the heck of it, I've been keeping a record of the battery life vs. number of pictures taken since I set them up on Oct. 3rd.
Here are the results so far:
M40
10/03/09 - Set up with used batteries that read 80%
10/03/09 to 10/17/09 - 147 pictures - battery at 69%
10/18/09 to 10/23/09 - 184 pictures - battery at 65%
10/24/09 to 10/31/09 - 188 pictures - battery at 62%
11/01/09 to 11/06/09 - 108 pictures - battery at 58%
TOTAL PICTURES = 627
5.0 Outfitter
10/03/09 - Set up with new batteries that read 99%
10/03/09 to 10/17/09 - 345 pictures - battery at 80%
10/18/09 to 10/23/09 - 241 pictures - battery at 70%
10/24/09 to 10/31/09 - 207 pictures - battery at 65%
11/01/09 to 11/06/09 - 174 pictures - battery at 55%
TOTAL PICTURES = 967
Even though these cameras take six D cells, that doesn't seem too bad to me.

Night flash pictures were so white you could barely see the actual deer.
I called Moultrie and they told it was a known problem and had me send it in. A week later I got a new I40 in the mail. I had it up one afternoon/night. The day pics are "ok" at best and the IR pics were very grainy. I sold it on craigslist.
I bought a Scoutguard and a Cudde Capture and there is no comparison. They blow both Moultries away on trigger and quality of day and night pics.
I'll never own another Moultrie.

I guess it's all in the one you happen to get. My Moultries take good pictures, but they are not IRs. My buddy's Cuddie is back in the shop for the second time.
