what is wrong with my deer?

look at these deer some of them look so dang skinny what is wrong? there are corn and bean firlds around. and some of them look ok what is the deal? i hunted here on opening evening and didnt see a thing

Since they don't all look that way, it just might be that particular deer. Or it could be that their winter coat just hasn't come in yet and that always makes them look skinny. Good luck this year.

also do you think those two larger fawns with the skinny doe are old enough too live without her

Canuck33 09-28-2009 08:32 AM

Most of them look ok but that one doe which I think must be the same in all the pics looks to have some sort of problem, way to skinny for sure

For Ohio deer she does seem skinny, but here in Alabama she'd fit right in. She obviosly lost body mass in the pregnancy and after the birth of those fawns (milk). She needs minerals and I'm sure she'll get what she needs to overcome her struggles. Do you have a trophy rock, our deer love it and the does esp. use it well into December down here. They just loose so much in the whole pregnancy process.

This tends to happen to nursing Does, as most of the fat will go to the milk... She will start weening them in Sept. and she will plump up before to late.
OR
She could be sick...

so if i get a shot at her i should pass too keep those fawns alive

I have pics of one doe just like that with two fawns.

Those fawns are plenty old enough to be just fine. I have a pair around the farm that were orphaned in mid July and they've done very well.
