The ants got me (Updated with pictures)
 

Well I went and checked my camera today hoping for more pictures of those two nice bucks and when I opened it up there were ants all over. I was gonna just switch cards but decided to bring the cam in because of the ants. I had 470 pictures taken over the week so I was excited to see what was on there. Ended up there were about 420 pictures with nothing in them, which I never usually have hardly any pictures like that with my stealth cam so I'm wondering if the ants had anything to do with that. I did not get any pictures of those two nice bucks but got two different nice bucks and some nice fawn pictures I will post up later tonight. I sure hope my camera wont be affected from these darn ants.

Yeah I've had the same exact thing happen to me....I had a card in it and took it home and had pictures with nothingin themexcept for a few. It didn't hurt my camera when it happend so I wouldn't worry.

When I had my infamous ant attack a few weeks ago, I had the same result you did. A whole bunch of triggers but nothing in them. I ended up bringing the camera home and letting it set outside for a few days, thinking that would solve the problem. It didn't. I ended up spraying a wash rag down with insecticide and placing it in a garbage bag with the camera. That did the trick. I took it out and took it apart and blew it out with that keyboard cleaner stuffand the problem was solved. That cam will now and forever be known as the ant-cam. Good luck.

Had the same ant problem. I shock a bunch of ant out of the cam, and wrapped duct tape (sticky side out) around the post my cam was mounted to. My thought is that they will not be able to get food and will leave my cam!! If not I'm going to have to bring the cam in, and I don't want to do that.

And finally the buck in the background of these two pictures looks to be a decent buck but I wish I got better pics of him to see for sure. It looks like he is high and narrow and in the one picture I can see brow tines and splits.

Great Pics!! My buddy changed my cards for me last weekend and told me one of my cams was infested with ants and their eggs, he cleared the ants and the eggs our of it but I wish he would have pulled the cam.
He told me its already screwed up because the date and time and the pic counter display is no longer working. I hope the cam is still able to take pics when can get back out July 4th weekend. Pike

Had them inside my Excite, sprayed it and had no problems after that . You may want to spray the base of the tree to keep them away .

next time you get ants in your cam, place your cam in a 1 gallon zip lock bag and put it in the freezer over night. this will kill any ants in the cam. i would do this before spraying any insecticide on my cam. besides the insecticide will put an odor on and in your cam that might not ever go away.

Hey guys thanks for all the comments, I am pretty sure I got all the ants killed. I am away for the weekend so I put the camera right beside my house looking over our garbage cans since something has been getting into them. Hopefully I will get some cool pics and in the mean time see if the camera is still operating correctly.

I just checked my Scoutguard today after being out for 5weeks and it was completely full of ants. It took pics for 6days and then stopped.
I only had about 25 deer pics of a total of 1500 pics. I pulled it, sprayed it out with the air compressor and now have it in a bag with a Raid soaked paper towel.
I really hope it still works.

Damn the ants are really hitting a lot of people this year. And it definitely seems like it causes the camera to take many blank pictures while the ants are in there. I had so many more empty pictures then I have ever had before but hopefully when the ants are gone the camera goes back to functioning normally.

Alright now I am confused.. If the cams are water tight as they say they can be how in the heck does ants get inside of them? It baffles me to see where they can get inside of one of them.. I am stumped by this news...

I wondered the same thing about how the ants can get in there but yet water doesn't. But good news is I had the camera out today and it took some good pictures and didnt false trigger at all so hopefully that is a sign of good things to come :)

Sorry about your misfortune, the ants will crawl all over my Cudde's buthavn't gotten in yet, mine seem to sill up pretty tight though.

After two days of being in a ziplock with Raid soaked paper towel I took my Scoutguard out and sprayed it down with canned air again.
Put in fresh batteries and sd card and it fired right up.
Put it in my back yard for a day or two to see that it's still triggering correctly.

cams are weatherproof, not actually waterproof. they all have a weep hole for the components to get air. in theory if you cover the weep hole you stop the ants, but if you cover the hole the cam maynot get enough air to the boards and overheat.
