Covert game cameras
 

Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the Covert II Assassin? I was looking at one at the local proshop today and they appear to be a sweet little camera. Seems like I've read a few negative comments about the flash?

I've not heard any negative comments about the flash of the covert II's. They are improved upon over the SG550. The night time pictures are really great especially considering the small compact size. As for the PIR sensor pointed out by chasing game in their review, Lets just say that owners that I've spoken to have not seen it as a negative. I've sold several hundred units since they came out in Nov and not one negative response yet. The owner of Covert tells me he has had exactly 2 customers with PIR issues which were early models that had misaligned pir's. They were replaced with newer units and the customers were happy. Other customers have contacted him saying the like the wide pir sensing are because they were not allowed to bait deer and they always got three shots on trail sets. Others said the liked the flexibilty of being able to put a thin strip of electrical tape on the pir lens to block a small portion for feeder sets then remove it during the rut for trail sets. There is no such thing as a perfect camera. There is a reason so many manufacturers make so many different models. If you want a sub compact camera that is affordable, reliable, takes great day and nighttime pictures, gets phenominal battery life, has a fast trigger especially on trail sets, and is backed by a company that cares about customer service then the covert II fits the bill. If you want a camera that does all of this and will only ever be used on a feed station then the Covert SG550 fits that order.

I have one of the first generation cameras that looking like the covert, seems to work good for me.

And what is the difference between scoutguard and covert? Are they the same company?

Siman, no they are not the same company but both cams are built at the same factory in China, by the same workers and using the same materials with the same quality control. They just stamp different brand names and models on them. Pike

The review was done on a group of 6 cameras that were purchased from day one through
to the date of the review. All cameras were purchased from defferent sources, so that
any issues found could not be related to date or source. All issues that were found were
displayed on all six cameras. This camera found its roots from the original 07 first generation
Scoutguard 550 camera. Useing the same internal parts the second generation called the 08 Covert 11 camera was born with a few birth defects due to a rush in the delivery room.Now
the third generation (09) of this camera is comming available this week under the Bushnell name. All the pre release cameras tested exibited none of the serious issues that plagued
the Covert camera. Most all Bushnell dealers should have this new camera by April 15 or
shortly there after. This will be a 09 camera and will be reviewed shortly.
