moultrie D-40 vs. 3.1

Ok guys and gals lets see your average quality pic from the moultrie D-40. I have a few 3.1's but have never tried a D-40. For you guys that have tried them both, what are the overall differences in photo quality and trigger speed?

picture quality isn't good for either, and unless you set it over a bait pile you won't get pictures cause it triggers sooooo slow. customer service is excellent though.

I have the Moultrie D40, and I love it so far. Batteries could last longer, but other than that, for the $$, it is a great camera. The only other camera I have had is a 35mm Stealth. I will post some pics from it tonight when I get home from work. Like someone told me before, every camera has its good points, and bad points, but the bottom line is, buy what you can afford, and hae fun with it. I for one, refuse to go out and spend $300 on a camera that is going to be outside on a tree all the time.

I agree. I also have a D40 and it does the job. I don't need a fancy camera for what I use it for.

cuddes are horrible. moultries are the greatest cameras ever made. the picture quality is incredible and the batteries will last for years. heck i've taken 10,000 pictures with my d40 and the battery life still says 85%. plus, their customer service is second to none.

Heavy hitter,

Nice picture, don't you guys get any snow in Illinois?

the last few years have been pretty mild (that pic was from 06). the same can't be said for this year. well over 50 inches so far here in northern illinois this season and another big one coming this weekend. actually it's getting kinda old, shed hunting is basically impossible.

I hear ya, we have gotten a steady diet of snow this year.
A little tough on the deer because most of the winter, the snow has a crust on top.

Iused a Moultrie D 40 bought in 08 and although it states it has a USB hs a a usb port, it is is pluged with a white pluge. Calls to Cabelias and Moultrie were unable to recolve how to utilise thid port to down lode my pics to my laptop. I must swap out the memory card and D/L to my laptop. Anyone else who has purchsed a newer 6 D cell model with this USB block and was it resolved?

You might post your problem at this link - it is for Moultrie cameras and seems to have pretty good responses.

RE: moultrie D-40 vs. 3.1

I am a huge Moultrie fan. I have two of the D40s and one I60. Out of 1000 or so pictures between the two D40s, I have only experienced two "white-out's." Considering that I purchased the one that produced the "white-out" pictures for $25 (some idiot returned it stating that the camera was defective and I was able to make an offer on it).

The trigger speed on the Moultries are some of the best. The only obstacle I had to adjust to was with the "Sleep Mode" on the D40. It has a sleep mode to help extend battery life and it takes it a few extra seconds to fire up once motion is detected. This seems to take a little longer when the flash is required. The adjustment...remove from a trail and put over a foodplot. The number of pictures increased tremendously. This camera is great fro setting up over feeding areas. For the price (under $100), you can't beat it.

Here are a few samples of the pictures I've gotten with it.
