Wire an external battery to trail camera
 

I got a new Bushnell trailscout Pro. I have not used it yet but heard batteries drain fast especially in cold temps. I want to wirean external rechargeable battery. I was wondering if any one has done this and if they have any ideas on what might work best. I have som ideas of my own but would like to get more ideas.

I am not trying to go against the grain. Some cameras will go 2 to 5 months on a set batteries with out any hassle of external batteries. The Bushnell does have good pics an fair wake up time. But the batteries are only suppose to last maybe 2 or 3 weeks at best. That is a lot of schooling for deer to where you are going to be at this comingfall.

I have an older model trailscout, it does eat batteries.
Depending on the cold weather, batteries can last between 14-30 days.
I have rigged up an external rechargable 6v battery setup, it is a 6v 14ah.
Iam not done testing yet, but this battery does last longer.
One thing you will need to know is: what is the voltage on this new trailscout, i think they are still 6v. Also the new trailscouts have an external jack, for a solar panel, to keep it charged.

bbahunter when you are done testing pm me and let mr know how you made out. There is no external jack on this one for a solar panel, I was also thinking about rigging a solar panel to recharge batteries.

i got a trail camra the batries last for a while but they make a solor panel you can buy in cabels

This is covered on www.chasingame.com. Basically you use a dowel rod the size of a d battery in the far right battery holder, that has a wire tap glued on and an aligator clip to the far left clipped and back out to your battery. There are a few photo's using bushnells under the camera modifications forum and another location on their site. Using the same batteries bbahunter is using or larger
