White-out pics
 

I have a stealth cam STCV550 and occasionally I get pics that are all white, like the flash is triggering in the early A.M. Any reason why or suggestions? Otherwise it has worked great except for battery life is short.

i would suggest you invest in a cuddeback.

That is common with the stealth and moultrie cams. I haven't heard of any good remedies to get rid of it. It is just something we have to deal with until they figure something out.

As far as the battery life, I purchased an external 12v lead acid battery for my I450 and it makes a world of difference. The camera has been out 3 weeks and still shows full battery. I was getting 10-14 days with batteries. It cost $40-50 depending on where you get it, but I figured it would pay for itself in a month or 2.

Which direction is the cam facing (north, south, east, west)? Are all your white-out pics around the same time (am or pm)? My father-in-law had this same problem, and I did a little reading on some forums and found that if you make sure that your cam is facing north OR south, the sun can't shine directly into the lens, whiting-out the pic. I know with several cams, the sun will also make the cam falsely trigger. By facing the camera directly north or south, the sun has a harder time shinning directly into the lens, causing a white-out. Try it and see if that helps...I know that it helped my father-in-laws camera.

i like to try and get a rise out of people. in reality i really don't care what kind other guys use. i do love my cuddeback though.
