Film question
 

Ok, I have a 35 mm trail camera, I know I need a digital, but that's not in the cards right now. My question is, what is the best film to use?? I've been using 400, but man alive it is SOOOO grainy you can hardly see the darn deer.....

Someone in the know give me the lowdown....What film is what, and what should I be using?

Hey mobow,,, I always used 400 in my 35mm cam, and had good results, Im not sure what brand it was, but it was cheap film from Walmart, came in a blue box and there were 4 rolls in a box. I used some 800 one time, and it dod well too, but was more expensive. I think Bass Pro has the Moultrie 4mp digital cam for $99. Ive got two of the Older moultrie cams, and they are great, and at 99 bucks, they paid for themselves fast. I was getting a roll of film every day or two on my 35mm cams, and by the time I bought the film and had it developed, and kept batteries in the cam, I was at almost 10 bucks a roll! That was getting pretty pricey. What cam are you using?

Thanks Angus....It is a Vision, from Deercam I believe.....The camera itself is an Olympus 35 mm......The system works quite well, with fairly fast trigger speed......I just GOTTA find some decent film though.......Here's a pic to show what I'm talking about....

i would go with kodak 800 or fuji 800. a little more expensive. some cameras recommend using 800's. but they will use 400's it will just be grainy. i have an older camtrakker and 400's were grainy, so i put in 800's and what a difference clear as a bell.

IME the 800 speed will give you grainier pictures at night. The 400 speed always seeem to be the best compromise for me. If it is a Stealth cam you are using, the Kodak Gold always was the most reliable for me.

When I used to run a few Deer Cams I always had THE best photo quality using ISO 200. As you mentioned, the other speeds seemed grainy and the colors were never as sharp.

Does the lower ISO rating limit the flash distance effectiveness?

I had a problem using Fuji film in my Steath. It would say it was empty with the film in it.

I called Steath and they said to use Kodak film. They said that they had several calls about this same issue with other brands of film. Said no problems reported with Kodak .


Also had good results with 400 speed.
