I made up some bullets

I got busy and made up 1400 bullets. These are 460 grain Lee 500 S&W bullet. I paper patch them and size them for my rifles.
I had a few friends that wanted some so I made a big batch. I added a 380 ACP round for size comparison. They are weighed +- 1 grain. They are hardened to 6.5 BHN. I separated them into lots so I can re test for hardness in about a month.

That's one heck of a long casting session Ron. It must have been a cold rainy day. :D

It actually took a couple days. I can only stand on cold cement so long. I used over 90 pounds of lead.

Looks like that bullet will hurt on both ends! That sure is a lot of bullets. I'm happy when I cast 200 or so at one seating. Last time I only got to 140

Very Nice!

When you recheck for hardness, do they get harder sometimes?

idahoron 12-15-2018 09:25 AM

When you are pouring alloyed lead they will get harder. Sometimes it doesn't take that long. I think it really depends on the hardness your trying to get. The 6 to 7 BHN I like will settle down in a month. Pistol ally will keep getting harder for a couple months.
