took a 54 cal new englander to the range

my had a old friend with me he's 79.5 years young lol we took a few shots i was showing him about the gun, its got fiber optic TC sights , I'm hopeing to hunt with it this fall, i bought the barrel on e-bay

he went on to shoot a pistol and i settled in to to get used to the sights, i was useing .530 balls cotton patches with the blue stripes(.018?) a couple had red stripes(.015?)the red striped ones went down easyer....fruntier's anti-rust and patch lube and 70 grains of black powder i kept the target at 25 yards

Should be minute of deer. Take him to the range some more and let him practice.

my problem with the fiber optic sights is the range is very dark the sights don't light up much

stripercrazy 06-26-2017 04:07 PM

down range baffles over head so bullets can't get out

stripercrazy 06-26-2017 04:08 PM

looking up at baffles

shreded tires stops the lead, its a great range but dark....the fiber optics work great outside, the new englander should be great for hunting,I'd like to pratice at 50 yards but might have trouble seeing target with out the sun

I have three of those New Englanders. Well one is a shotgun, so that makes four counting that. But on one of them I mounted a scope. Yep! A scope. And I am shooting 50 yards with some amazing round ball accuracy. My load is 85 grains of powder and since two are .50 caliber and one .54 caliber I shoot about anything I want.

50 yards off a bench rest it does pretty good. I don't remember why I was shooting so much powder that day. the 1.5-6x40mm scope (the photo was mis labeled.) it wears is one of them illuminated kind. Its got a red lens for late hour shooting in it.

The other ones are not scoped.

nice range. looks like you got her dialed in pretty good. now you need to get out to 50 yards and play with powder charges until you find the sweet spot.
