Checking my accuracy

Got a couple new Treso nipples in today for my Traditions St.Louis Hawken.

I loaded up my current hunting load of 70gr Pyrodex P, .020" patch, .490" round ball.

Before loading, I popped 2 caps and they sounded real dull, not the typical sharp loud crack that I usually hear. I could hear a muffled boop, come out of the muzzle when the cap went off.

But anyway, the nipple worked flawless with Pyrodex. Cap fit is still a little loose so pinching the cap is a must. I'll cut some rubber hose and slip that over the nipple to hold it in place while hunting.

My first shot is to the right. After seeing that I just about busted my twisted up gut the doctor found yesterday :barmy:
Open sights, traditional muzzleloader and patched round ball. HELL YES!

That is good shooting. Do you hunt with the 70 grain load at all?

Pretty good for 25 yards :)

:busted: Ditto!!

That would be from 100 yards.

Cayugad, I have hunted with the 70gr load in the past, but that was with olde eynsford black powder. This is roughly equal to 80gr RS and that load I've hunted with a lot.

BTW, that black dot in the center is 1 1/2" diameter.

UPS just dropped off a package of SS Traditions nipples, so I added one to my kentucky pistol. Got to order a front sight for that now.
