Rmc advise

i just picked up a older accusporter 1 rifle with a 1:45 twist and was looking to see what everyone uses for a load and projectile

I don't know much about the RMC Accusporter. Tell us more about what you have (flint/percussion? caliber? etc.) Pictures, we love pictures. :D

Same as any sidelock muzzleloader. Each and every one is different. I'm assuming its a 50 caliber. So whether you're going to shoot round balls, full bore conicals or saboted bullets you're going to have to play with it using FFg or FFFg powder. Start with 80 grains and work your way up to 100. You can use Pyrodex or Triple 7 if its a percussion. Or even Alliant Black MZ. I haven't found a front stuffer that wouldn't shoot something in that powder charge range well.

Odd twist. For giggles, I'd give the 385gr hornady great plains bullet and 80gr pyrodex RS or Goex 2fg a try. My sidelocks love that load.

Are you sure that's the right twist? I know they built those rifles with Green Mt. barrels and if I remember right, they were using 1:28 twist barrels for sabots. They were quality rifles with L&R locks and I believe they had a removable breechplug as well.

sorry finger mistake it is a 1:48 twist from what the seller told me. It is a 50 calaiber flintlock. The seller told me he used 777 powder and 240 grain conicals. From my research I am going to use real black powder.

MountainDevil54 02-15-2017 08:47 AM

yes use real black powder.

They did produce the Accusporter in 1-48 twist as I remember. And the composite wood looking stocks were beautiful IMO. If this is a flintlock, then yes... black powder only. If not and its percussion then 777 is a fine powder and should work well.

I used to talk to a person that had the Accusporter in 1-66 roundball twist and in the 1-48. He lives in PA and hunt Kansas also each year also. He was telling me his was a flintlock and he's told of a lot of deer his son and him have shot. The son also has an Accusporter.

Also as I remember (I came one word from owning one. I called and was talking to the person at RMC and there was some rumor they were going out of business. When I asked him he did not answer me to my satisfaction so I did not purchase one) but as I remember one model had a removable breech plug (which is why I wanted one) and the other model did not.

Are you sure they did not shoot a 240 grain XTP in a black sabot out of the rifle. The reason I ask is the person I used to talk to, used that Hornady .45 caliber XTP in a black sabot as a hunting load when he hunted deer in Kansas each year.

Sounds like you have a great rifle.

RMC sold it's product line to Cox's Gun shop. They did offer a 1:28 twist barrel for sabots as well as 1:48 and probably 1:66 although I don't remember it. They all had a removable breech plug, L&R locks, and were also offered in left hand for awhile. They had a lot of "innovations" that weren't available on other ML's at the time but they were expensive nonetheless.
They were manufactured in Mingoville PA, about 1-1/2 hrs. south west of where I live. I can remember visiting with them at the big Eastern Outdoor Sports show in Harrisburg when they were still RMC Sports inc. Always wanted one but never "pulled the trigger" so to speak.

270sniper...
The Accusporters were quality rifles... the one you have should be a great shooter.
