Double trouble arrived today

Well I was getting some hunting stuff ready when I heard Fedex drop a package off :nonono2:

A huge box that weighed about 20lbs ( no not really but felt like it) and I am scratching my head wondering....

What could those be!!

The new Traditions Mountain Rifles had arrived!

Yes, I swabbed the percussion out, lubed the lock and took it shooting. First 2 shots out of a NEW rifle from the box printed 1 1/2" at 50 yards with the first load I tried. I just finished adjusting the sight up a bit so hopefully it will be close.

Very nice looking rifles. I like the Flintlock. Other then the two wedge pins it reminds me of my Traditions Woodsman Hawkens. Are they 1-48 twist?

Fit and finish looks really nice.

Are they 1-48 twist?

This site says are 1/66.

These are indeed 1:48 twist. That website has the incorrect twist labeled unless they are available in slow twist as an option. I never read or heard of that one being available however.

Fit and finish are great. Its a really well built rifle.

Love it already! I am bringing this one hunting as well. Both the Hawken Woodsman and the new Mountain Rifle shoot the same loads beautifully. I do prefer the sights on the Mountain Rifle. They are a lot easier for my eye to adjust on.

50 yards - Jim Shockeys Gold - .490" round balls - .015" Patches lubed with Frontier's Anti-Rust & Patch Lube.

75 yards

The color of the barrel is hard to explain. It does have a very light brown touch to it, depending on what lighting condition you are in, other times, it has a gray color to it as shown below in full light. Yet on the next picture below in low light conditions, it has a very distinct brown color.

Looks kinda "olive brown" in that picture. Very pleasing.

I really wish my dang eyes weren't shot for open sites. I miss my sidelocks something awful.

Nice looking rifles and the caplock looks like a shooter. I hope they work out for you. Not bashing Traditions but I had a really bad experience with one a few years back and I am a little "gun shy" about buying another. Besides I have an entire will full of sidelocks and don't shoot them near enough. My .58 has been getting all my attention lately. I'm still waiting on the smith to blue my new .54 custom flintlock barrel.
I stopped by today and he plans on bluing this weekend. I almost walked out of the shop with a .58 Big Bore Renegade on the used rack. But at $275 I passed on it.

Have you ever tried using a peep? I can shoot my peep sights dang near as well as a 1X scope out to 50 yards.
