Getting a little nervous
I took my .54 flintlock barrel made by Bob Hoyt down to my local gunsmith to get blued about the middle of July. I kept calling him and it wasn't done yet. He had some others that he was going to do some pre-bluing work on (polishing etc). I told him that I was going on a ML hunt the beginning of October and I needed to install the sights and get a load worked up for it. He told me he should have everything done and ready to blue by next weekend.
I don't think I'm really going to use it as I will be using my .58 Rene and my Accura V2, but I'm dying to see how it shoots and have it ready for my PA late season. Even then it will be decision time. The .54 round baller Hawken, the .50 round ball Pedersoli, or the .50 Rene LRH. I will probably have my grandson shooting the .50 Rene. Then for the early season he can use the .45 Hawken caplock. Unless I can make up a light load for the .54 Knight "Black Knight". Any ideas on a light .54 load anyone. Sorry for the rambling but I'm down here in FL and bored to death. (or my limited supply of remaining brain cells are getting fried!) |
Well it sounds like you have your bases covered at least. I would be really excited to see the blued new barrel. Good luck with your rifles.

Hey Bud...
Didn't realize you were in Fla.... thought you were back home. Gotta be some brutal heat down there this time of year! I was curious about that new barrel myself, wondering how that sight I sent you worked out. Guess we'll have to wait and see. BPS |
I prefer to brown my own, with the humidity and heat we are all having this summer, it would have been an easy job....

don't worry Dave, pics will follow when I get it back and all set up. I decided to not put the FO sights on I had for it. Instead, with the help of BPS for a front sight and a purchase of a nice rear dovetailed sight I'm going to go the more traditional route. |
