So much for the R&R
Big trouble today. I just vacuumed the RV to get it ready for our Texas trip and I heard a popping sound above the refrigerator. Seconds later the RV's roof burst into flames.
I was quick enough to get it backed away from the house but the fire became so intense that it melted my vinyl siding along with the siding on the neighbor's houses and melted the liner to the swimming pool down to the water level. So I've been on the phone with insurance companies all day. The RV is burnt to the ground. But thank God no one was injured and it happened now instead of when we were on the road. |
Man that really stinks. Glad you or your family were not hurt. Just keep in mind that it could have been worse and all that is damaged can be replaced. What caused the fire, a bad electric outlet?

WOW! That's freaky. I feel for `ya man.

Yead Oldtimr...Insurance company's claim rep called me back and told me that there was an open recall on the refrigerator due to it shorting out. Sad part is that my wife spent countless hours on it getting it all spruced up. And she did a very good job. I changed the oil and filter and put in a new air filter. Last week I spent over $400 at the garage getting the front end (shocks, steering stabilizer and shock bushings) worked on.
We had it all ready to make the trip to Texas to pick up the grandkids. My wife is all freaked out. But I'm a virtual optimist. That's why we pay insurance I tell her. We didn't have anything in there of any value and no one was hurt. The house can be repaired easily with a new siding job. |
You won't be able to collect anything for your wife's labor but if you have your receipts for the garage work, parts and labor you may be able to collect on that. You have to wonder why you were not notified about the recall.

Oldtimr I'm sure the insurance company will likely say "well the vehicle should have been in good operating condition anyway".
But I will run it across them. |
Bronko...
THANK GOD and Sonny Jesus that you folks weren't sleeping in it when it happened and that no one was injured!! Kind of a blessing in disguise that it happened at home. Property can be replaced, people can't! Hope things work out OK dealing with the insurance companies. BPS |
Man that is one hell of a swimming pool liner! Had that sucker burning down within 3 feet and not a leak in site!!! Yet the siding on your house 15 feet away halfway melted off!!!

Wow!
As others posted glad you and the wife are alright! A suggestion: after things get settled with the insurance company you and your wife get away for a weekend. A local resort, hotel, casino, etc., is good for this. No doubt both of you could use a break. Good luck! |

On a side note, we got the business with the vehicle insurance all finalized but we're waiting on estimates for the house reconstruction and cleaning to come in. |
