How old is to old????
 

A guy has a Fred Bear 70inch Kodiak longbow made in the mid 50`s that looks like new.
Are old bows like that prone to breakage, are there warning signs or do they just break.
I`m thinking about buying it but don`t want to have it explode in my face.

If you can't find any cracks or delaminations, and it doesn't creak or crack when you draw it, then you should be good to go. Listen close and draw it back a little at a time, let down, draw a little further, etc. several times. Dacron only for the string, and keep the arrow weight up.

I'm shooting an early 60s Root Brushmaster for a bowfishin rig and it shoots pretty darn good. Like Chad said, just watch for cracks in the finish or delams.......

Was out shooting it today a little, man does it shoot nice, i`m new to traditional but i was putting them in foot, foot and half groups at 20 yards.
I can see it`s all about doing the same thing over and over and learning to judge distances.
What a blast, glad i bought one, next i have to get used to carrying one around without running into everything, use to the short compound.:D
