stick vs mod
 

hi all
just got back into hunting in 2004 still have an elk season going on no luck lol but any way was thinking about do boe hunting this years as well thouht it wuld be an wasome time already hae spots picked out i grew up shoot stick my question is should i go compound or recurve and i havn't bow hunted before except trees lol what pound would i need for elk or moose and which type of bow thanx much

This may be a stupid question, but have you hunted with either before??

I think it would be reaching at the very least to think you could pick up a stick bow now and be accurate enough to hunt with it still this season. Just my opinion for what its worth.

lol not too hunt know to getready for the season lol 2005 lol have a year to prepare was just wondering if i should stick with what i have shot ore change lol

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, one can be just as deadly as the other.

Compounds with sights can be shot accuratly quicker, I think. You can generally pull more weight and get a faster arrow due to the let-off. You can add umpteem different attachments to help counter any problems you have or mistakes you make. Most folks can shoot a compound accurately at a longer distance.

On the other hand, compounds with all the gadgets weigh a lot more than most traditional bows. Anything with moving parts is more prone to failure, and bows can get out of tune, sights get bumped off, release aids lost/forgotten/left behind, etc. etc. Replacing a string is simple with a trad bow, but may take a good bit of equipment with a compound. If you break a string on a trad bow, generally you just put another one on (always keep a spare that is shot in and ready). With a compound, unless you have the right knowledge and equipment, you have to leave the camp and look for a shop. You generally won't have to be as good at judging exact yardage with a trad bow to make the shot. Trad bows are usually much quieter. Quick shots, off balance shots, awkward shots, etc. that cannot be made with a compound can usually be taken accurately with a trad bow. Trad bows don't become obsolete when they are a few years old. Trad bow take more dedication to become proficient with, and require regular practice to maintain that proficiency.
