Longbow hunting tips for a beginner
Any tips for someone who has never been hunting with a longbow. I have hunted this year with a muzzleloading caplock rifle. I mostly still hunted. I understand that most bow hunters hunt from stands, that is people I know with compounds. I don't know any traditional hunters so therefore don't know what is recommended. Thanks

RE: Longbow hunting tips for a beginner
You can use the same method you use for any other type weapon, just keep in mind you have to get close (scent control and playing the wind are a must) and practice from the same situations you plan to hunt in. For example, if you plan to hunt from a treestand, practice from a treestand--same goes with a pop-up blind, hommade blind, etc.
Good luck! Chad |

What Chad said, dido. I practice standing, kneeling, sitting, leaning around a tree and from a ladder stand in my backyard. Going to 3-D shoots is fun and can be great practice shooting at unknown distances, up hill, downhill, quartering shots and so on. Shooting any trad bow takes dedication and lots and lots of practice to learn your own limitations especially if your going to be hunting. But for me hunting with my longbow gives me a great deal of satisfaction because I have invested alot of time and effort.
Good luck, it's alot of fun Jim Robator |
RE: Longbow hunting tips for a beginner
I've been a bowhunter for many years, started with a recurve then went to compund, but have been getting the urge to more more traditional again. I had an old longbow given to me recently, so I am about to become a beginner with that particular type of bow. I don't know much about the bow, not even sure it will be right for me, it has some markings on it....BB, 60, 22, 24", H...anybody know what the markings refer to and what type of arrows should be used with it? I have an idea what the markings mean, but I'm not sure.
