What arrows for recurve bow?
Hello, not in this topic too much. I have a recurve bow that my dad made in high school (approx 25 or so years ago). It is left handed, draws at 28" (my draw length), and has a draw weight at about 40 lbs or so, maybe about 45. I am wondering what kind of arrows and broadheads would be a good combo for hunting mule deer and antelope? Shots would not exceed maybe 30 yds maybe a little farther or so. I would like to get back into shooting archery and try to hunt at least antelope next year if I can draw a tag here in Nevada next year. Any suggestions on what would work for these guys. BTW, I have some arrows that are wooden (not sure what kind) that have the broadheads already fixed into the shafts. Any help would be great!!!

RE: What arrows for recurve bow?
What you really need to do is get to a bow scale and find out for sure what the bow is pulling at your draw length. When you're talking about lighter draw weight bows, 5 pounds in draw weight has significant effect on arrow/broadhead choice.
Just going on what you've given us, I'd suggest 2016's with 100 gn Magnus Stingers. |
RE: What arrows for recurve bow?
Thanks Arthur. I did take it in once before to the archery shop, but couldn't remember exactly what it drew at as far as draw weight is concerned. I don't think the guy there even drew it to a full 28." Maybe he was afraid of it snapping?? I don't know, I have drawn it back more times than I can remember, though it hasn't been used for about 15 years for hunting, and only for target practice a few times since then, as we hadn't really hunted much since we got into Nevada until 1998, and that has only been with rifle. I will have to get it in there again and have the guy check it to what it is at 28" draw length. I asked this question on the chat last night also, and I believe the 2016's were recommended also. Thanks again!
