Arm slap
 

I have a question reguarding arm slap. I have absolutely none. I am new to the sport and have been shooting quite a bit lately. And not once have i hit my arm with the string. I am pretty sure my form is good and I am shooting fairly tight groups. Should I be concerned? I shot a lot as a kid and never had a problem with arm slap. I was a really good shot too.

sounds like you are doing everything right.

When I am humming at the range I buzz my arm just a tad with the string. Not enough I need to wear an arm guard, however its enough I can feel it with an arm guard on. Was working on trying to adjust to get rid of it this spring as I do quite a bit of really cold weather hunting. Figure if I can get rid of it now, it will be minimal to non existant when I put the marshmellow man suit on. Maybe someday I'll get it right? :eek:

If everything is going right (and it sounds like it is) I wouldn't worry about it. The only time I wear an arm guard is when I have on long sleeves, or when I shoot a longbow with a low (6" or so) brace height. Everyone is built differently--a bow that stings one guy may not touch the next.

its very rare for me to hit my arm but i still wear a arm guard because the 1 time i do hit my arm it hurts and the guard dosent get in my way or anything so why not wear it? but it sounds like you have good form and all if you`ve never done it so thats good

This is a thing unheard of! Someone worrying because they're not getting any arm slap?!!?

Arm slap is bad. #1, it hurts. #2, it can nock your arrow off course and ruin a shot.

Whatever you're doing, it sounds like it's working for you. Keep doing it.[&:]

It is not uncommon phenomena that while a person is still in the form-acquiring stage, a person might not experience much arm-slapping. However, I assure you, once you get totally comfortable, your form becomes more elastic, and you begin to tire after several strings, your concern will be no more.

and if you have a very high poundage bow it realllly hurts my compound will peel the skin off your arm everyone knows when ive forgotten my arm guard after i shoot ill always have a huge baseball size welt covered in what looks like road rash
