Does A Recurve Need Any Special Care?
 

Was wondering if you ever need to apply anything to the wood on a recurve bow? Something like Murphy's oil soap or other wood protectants? Is there anything you guys use or is it unecessary?

Just wipe with a damp cloth to clean it. Keep it out of direct sun light and do not let it get above 120 degrees (ie, do not shut it up in a car on a hot summer day), use a bow stringer, and do not leave the bow strung when you are finished with it.

I occasionally wipe mine down with a spray on furniture polish, like pledge.

Be sure to store it properly. Never just stand it in a corner. I like to rest them on two pegs so the weight it riding on the fadeouts.

mez ABSOLUTLY!!!!!!!!! You have to treat it like a FINE LADY. Wrap it in a exspensive bow sleeve. Wax it's srting ever once in a while and fondle its nocking point now and again. Brush its string sliencers and keep them fluffy. Wax her limbs and riser. Talk to her with TLC every day! Take her to the big traditional shoots like KK, Cloverdale, and Denton Hill and show her off. A Recurve, unlike longbow which you can throw any where in any corner and they will be satisfied, just a fancy tonato stake you any way, MUST be revered and worshiped!!!!!! :D;):eek:

Thanks for the advice guys. I store it in my closet, hanging between two plastic coat hangers. COB, what kind of wax do you use on the limbs and riser?

What COB is trying to say is longbows don't require excess care or special treatment to be your friend. Longbows are like dogs, recurves are like cats. The longbow will be there for you whether you kiss it's butt or not, the recurve.....well, if it's in the right mood and it's convenient.

Fancy tomato stake? I know of another great use for a longbow--you can make a COB-sicle with one![>:] Er....., you will be at Cloverdale won't you COB?

mez my cat bow like just any ole paste wax. Gives its coat, limbs and riser, that contented shine. Know what I mean. :D:D
