Default Pictures of crowned/crested Graphlex arrows

I spray painted these Graphlex type shafts, then crested with Testors, dipped twice in Minwax Polyacrylic then dipped 3 or 4 times in clear Gasket Laquer. Because on these particular shafts, the inserts don't fit flush with the shaft diameter, I footed the shafts with a 3 inch piece of 2413 aluminum arrow and insert. I made a tough as nail arrow and the three I have been shooting have been seriously abused. Even my old Gold Tips wouldn't have held up. I finally broke one yesterday, dead centering a 4x4 cedar post in my back yard. The insert was driven back into the shaft maybe 1/2 inch, the aluminum 2413 split open but did not break away about 1 1/2 down from the tip. I took the rest of the 2413 off, cut the busted 1/2 inch of Graphlex shaft off, and added another 4 inch piece of 2413 and VOILA ! I have a usable shaft again. I like these, I like them a LOT !

Stealthy,

You did a beautiful job on the arrows! Where did you find the graphlex arrows? How many grains do they weigh per inch?

lamb1647 - These are the shafts that Dan Quillian sells on EBAY. At 29 1/2 inches, they weigh 420 grains (14.23 grains/inch). The added 3 or 4 inches of 2413 doesn't seem to effect arrow flight any either, and might add another 25 grains or so. Tipped with a 125 tip and all, you're looking at a 560-580 grain shaft - thats a good thing ~!

Toxophiliac - Yep, they look good, don't they ? I actually bought another two dozen shafts, these say M.J. Log on them, and are much smaller in diameter, a no.8 or so the shaft says. They came with aluminum inserts and nock-serts, but the inserts are for glue ons. A 2314 shaft fits snugly over them, so I'm going to foot them too I think. They are a pale beige color, and take stain really well Almost look like wood from a distance.
