traditional bow shoots
 

Could anybody tell me if there are any traditional shoots in Oklahoma,or is there anybody i could get in touch with to find out, Ive never been to one but i sure would like to. Thanks!!

A few years back there was a guy in Texas supplying a guy I knew with the same very thing, cedar hickory back bows. I had heard he had an accident though and had to quite building them. Now I think Nirk is building them as they are sold in some catalogs again..the local shop has them, I'll try to find out for ya but I was pretty sure it was Nirk.

There are a couple of other sources available.

Archery Traditions sells a selfbow that is hickory backed cherry or hickory backed walnut for $75.00. It is not finished. According to the webpage, all you have to do is apply several coats of sealer, add a rest, string the Dacron flemish string that comes with it and shoot.

Apalachee Archery also offers a finished hickory backed cherry selfbow starting at $75.00. And if anyone is interested, Apalachee advertises a dozen cedar arrows with self-nocks and turkey feather fletching for $40.00. I know nothing of their quality, only that they do advertise on the net.

Lilhunter and Lamb, same bows, same bowyer. Rogue River Archery also carries them, but they slick them off--smooth out the string grooves, check them out, and I believe add a leather grip--best deal in my opinion. Camo, the bow you have may or may not have been made by this fellow, as I know of a few people that have copied them.

Is the bowyer's name James Taylor? Does he still live in Alabama? I found him on a list on the net that was developed in 1995.

Yep, but he goes by "Jim". I've been to his place several times, but not lately.
