Adcock vs Horne Combo longbow ......
I bought a Horne Combo with longbow limbs last week. Thought I'd let ya'll know my personal opinion of it.
Its a beautiful bow, cocobolo riser with purple heart strips and the limbs are maple core with bocote veneers. Beautiful, but the finish is just a little less than the Adcocks (but still darn nice). The grip is fantastic, best I have ever had in my little hands. How does it shoot ? It is 1# heavier than my Adcock, yet feels 5# heavier during the draw. Whether its marked wrong or not, I dunno, thats just the way it felt. It has a touch of hand shock, more so than the Adcock, probably because of less mass in the riser. It does shoot though, darn well - very pointable, and quiet too. Overall, a darn good longbow, I like it. However, the Adcock is smoother (maybe the tonkin cane limbs ??)and sweeter and once again beats the competition - Horne longbow for sale :).I have about decided that Adcock Longbows Rule, but will that keep me from buying another longbow to try ? I doubt it, I still here Sley longbows are something special, and the Habu Death Adders, and what about the new Schafer longbows , and ...... |

Keep looking, please! I gave away my CM Firebird in lieu of my new (very slightly used)Fox longbow. It is so easy to surf the net or scan the pages of TBM and drool over the broad range of bows and bowyers available. Wow Stealthy...I completely understand the quest for the "Holy Grail" that you've undertaken. Even though I feel that I'm nearing the end of my search, I sure have had tons of fun & excitement along the way. I've ordered a bunch of bows, & loved owning/shooting/experimenting w/every single one of em. It's been a truly "fantastic voyage" w/nary a regret. I hope you enjoy your journey as much as I have mine, & that you never doubt that you will eventually find the "one". Keep in mind that you may already have it though, that Adcock is gonna be danged hard to beat. But don't let that detract from your mission for now, just enjoy. There's nothing quite like the sweet anguish & thrill of waiting for a new custom bow...the anticipation of unlimited possibilities. Well, I'm running off here. Just thought I should give ya a big slap on the back. Welcome to Archers Anonymous, ya gotta love it dude!!!

Maybe you should just order another Adcock in different woods and poundage. Since you like Longbows, the Adcock will be hard to beat. Sag. |

Floxter - Yeah, but I don't keep them - I just shoot them until I realize they aren't my Adcock bow then search for another :)
arrowsmit - I truly would love to shoot a Sley and an Acadian Woods bow. I love the take-dowm longbow look - its what I want and love. Whats the best shooting take-down longbow you've shot ? |

I have shot many of the Horne longbows myself, as i the store i use to work for handled them. Mark builds a really nice bow no doubt but i too also had the same expierence that you had with his bows. Keep in mind though, with a 32" draw length that i have, its hard to find a bow that does'nt feel stacky to me.....except for my checkmates and Roy Halls Navajo bows. I'll say one thing though about limb material, at a long draw the pacific mountain yew limbs have been about the smoothest ive ever drawn and ive drawn a ton of bamboo limb bows.....I guess every bows a lil different though, ya just have to find that special one.........Jaw |

I have been looking for a longbow. That is one I have been looking at, though I really don't like that style of takedowns. I was looking at them at Kalamazoo, and it looks like a great bow. So send away, you still have my address, right? |

Toxophiliac - Horne bow is already in the classifieds, sorry buddy. Its a very good bow, just not quite on the same level as Adcocks, I especially liked the grip and the 11 different strips of cocobolo (main piece) purpleheart and bocote in the riser - sharp design, very smooth looks. Simply like the Adcock better.

I have to agree with JB--with the bows I have shot, Yew has been the absolute smoothest (Black Walnut was pretty dang smooth too). I have only shot a few bows with Bamboo, none of them Adcocks, and they felt/performed average. Roy Hall makes a fine bow (Navajo), and Ric Anderson's Marriah feels really good in my hand (the few I have shot did anyway). I did sell my Navajo though....still have two Crusaders, and plan on getting a third one. Funny thing is, when I got the Navajo it was "THE BOW" for me. The only reason I tried a Crusader (bought my first one used) was because at some of bigger tournaments I shoot in the td Navajo (or any other 3-peice td longbow) was not legal for the regular longbow class--was classed with "modern longbow" or recurves. Keep shooting every bow you can get your hands on--you may find one you like better, or just confirm that the Adcock is "THE BOW" for you.
