Cedars for my Crusader????
Ok Chad and others. I decided to try some wood arrows. I currently shoot Trad and Trad Lite carbons, 30" , 165 grain points. Got 6 55-60 and 6 60-65 POC arrows 30" , 125 grain points. Want to shoot them from my 55# @ 29" Crusader and Lil Magnums. What do you think????
The Crusader seemed to like a stiffer carbon (Trads) while the Lil Magnums will shoot the Trads and Trad lites equally well. The Lil Magnums are cut just past center with the Crusader cut just before center (right Chad?). Chad you don' t know the spine of those arrows I sent you do you????? |
RE: Cedars for my Crusader????
CTB,
I would try the 60/65 with the 125 grain heads. If they don' t fly to suit you you can try 165 grain head to take some spine out . If your Crusader is like all of them I have shot a wide range of spine will fly good out of it. IMHO a little heavier spine flies better. Bill:D |
RE: Cedars for my Crusader????
I like to work on wood arrows during long winter evenings......
Cresting, glue them....nice work... For how they preform? I like the alu' s better. Have fun! |
RE: Cedars for my Crusader????
Chad any suggestions???? You' re a wood man. Ordered some 55-60 and 60-65 to check out. The Crusader and " other bows" are 55-57# @ 29" . Arrows will be 30" with 125 grain heads. Also ordered some 165 grain heads.

RE: Cedars for my Crusader????
I' m with Bill--60-65' s should do the trick, with 125 grain points. I use 75-80' s with 125 grain points pulling [email protected].

RE: Cedars for my Crusader????
For what it' s worth, I shoot a 64" , 57# t/d Crusader @ a 28 1/2" draw. I have found that it loves 65-70 cedars. I have tried all spine ranges from 50# to 80# and the 65-70s shoot great. I have made several sets of arrows for Chad and he shoots 80-85. I am not sure what his draw specs are, but maybe you do. Take care........Tom

RE: Cedars for my Crusader????
Tom-TN,
Thanks. I' ve got some 60-65 POC arrows, 30" , 125 grain points coming to try. Might end up being to light of spine. My Crusader seems to like the Trad lites with 165 grain tips. Thats probably like a 65-70 spine. |
RE: Cedars for my Crusader????
I have found over the years that very few longbows like the spine range that meets the actual weight of the bow. All of my longbows prefer either 10-12# lighter or 10-12# higher in spine then the bow draw weight. I think it depends mainly on the bow design. Take care.......Tom
