Camo Tape
 

Is there any reason to put camo tape on the front of the limbs of a recurve? I got to thinking it just wouldn' t make any difference if the deer never saw you to begin with, and there are a variety of other, more effective, ways to spook the deer before drawing.

If your bow is finished in a high gloss, the you do need something to cut the reflection when you go into stealth mode. A lot of guys I know just rub a very thin coat of paste wax on the limbs and let it glaze over to dull the finish. After they' re done hunting, they buff it off.

Last spring a guy showed up to one of our club shoots with some really neat limb covers on his ' curve. His were some kind of leopard print and he said there were other prints available. Our conversation was interrupted and I never did get the chance to ask where he got ' em from though. [:' (]

Buffing off wax or sliding limb covers off are both a lot easier than cleaning up tape residue.

Those limbskins are pretty neat.My brother uses them on some of his glossier bows.Here' s where you can find them at.

I' ll second the Limbskins from ABS. I had a very short stint of bowhunting w/a metal handled/glossy limbed ' target style' recurve & found them very handy. While not overly expensive (around $15 if memory serves), they' re solidly constructed of a spandex type material w/several different camo patterns to choose from. They' re very light wt. (don' t noticeably affect bow performance) & should last a very long time under even the most rigorous conditions.

You guys have made some sensible points. Thanks for that and the resources, too!! I think that traditional outfit out of Indiana markets something for the task, too.

I dont know how " traditional" it is, but I love " Camo Clad" as a replacement for camo tape because it is tougher and removes with NO residue leftover. I put some on my Martin takedown a couple of years ago and it still looks like new. I' ve used it on blued guns with equal results. I have done several trucks rockerpanels in the stuff and it lasts for years. Likewise I' ve seen it on boats and ATVs, its that tough. Camotape just holds moisture, frays and unravels and leaves a MESS if you ever want to remove it.
